Chief's Special? Dandy piece for a coat pocket revolver or for tackle box or small holster as a snake chaser!

Re: Recommend a good snake shot revolver?
Just get any .38spl/.357mag revolver. With shotshells the ballistics is practically all the same. If you're going to be around water, with a higher potential to have a "boating accident", go cheap. Taurus, Charter, and old Rossi, etc.
And you'll find .38/.357 shotshells easier than .44spl/.44mag shotshells.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

Re: Recommend a good snake shot revolver?
I agree with a revolver and some snake shot, but don't forget a good flap holster to protect it. Panning and mining is very dirty work. You may also want to consider a mixed chamber of loads. Not every critter you will come across slithers.

Re: Recommend a good snake shot revolver?
When I hike in the woods, I put snakeshot as the first round, the rest are hard cast lead. I figure even if I have a black bear encounter, maybe the first round of snakeshot would sting enough to make the bear reconsider its actions. If not, 180 gains of hard cast lead certainly will.

Get yourself a nice Bond derringer with the 410 barrel and be done. You can use it for just more than snakes.

Re: Recommend a good snake shot revolver?
I believe he said "Lightweight and don't you dare suggest the Taurus Judge".
Anyhow, if he's looking for small, lightweight, and inexpensive ... Taurus should be on the menu. I've a lot more confidence in them than a Charter Arms, for example.
For me? If I were looking for small, lightweight, and .38 special it would be something with "Airweight" engraved on it - like a S&W 442 or 642.
