Washington Times Editorial: Obama's gun lies
EDITORIAL: Obama's gun lies
Monday, April 20, 2009
The "liar, liar pants on fire" argument usually isn't the most effective. But when it comes to guns, President Obama is lying through his teeth.
On Thursday, while on a visit to Mexico, the president continued his Blame America First tour. "This war is being waged with guns purchased not here but in the United States," he said, referring to the drug wars that are tearing apart our neighbor to the south. "More than 90 percent of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States, many from gun shops that lay in our shared border."
It is completely untrue that 90 percent of guns recovered in Mexico are from America. The Mexican government separates guns it confiscates that were made in the United States and sends them here to be traced. U.S. weapons are easy to identify because of clear markings.
Of the ones sent here to be traced, 90 percent turn out to be from America, but most guns recovered in Mexico are not sent here so are not included in the count. Fox News reported that 17 percent is a more accurate number.
Democrats aren't alone in repeating phony gun statistics. The New York Times, CNN and numerous networks continue to repeat the 90 percent figure with no reporting to back it up. The hysteria is used to create the notion that a major problem exists with American guns - and Mr. Obama is anxious to step in to solve that problem with a $400 million program to stop U.S. guns from going to Mexico. That initiative would include clampdowns on U.S. gun shops.
It is ridiculous for Mr. Obama to blame Mexico's lawlessness on Americans as if the longstanding corruption of Mexican elected officials, judges and law-enforcement officers has nothing to do with it.
One of the root causes of corruption is low pay. Mexican police earn $460 a month, sometimes less, which makes bribes hard to resist. There are about 350,000 policemen in Mexico. The $400 million Mr. Obama has promised for his anti-gun program could raise the annual salary of every Mexican cop by $1,143, a 21 percent increase. But the president wouldn't be interested in that because his real agenda is to pursue gun control here at home.Of every one hundred men in battle, ten should not even be there. Eighty, are nothing but targets. Nine are the real fighters, we are lucky to have them since they make the battle. Ah, but the one—one is the Warrior—and he brings the others home. —Heracletus

Re: Washington Times Editorial: Obama's gun lies
I love how the demand for drugs in this country, which come from Mexico to the U.S., is "our problem", and yet the demand for guns in Mexico, which mostly come from other places, is also "our problem."
I am sick of the whole "common sense gun laws" argument. What about common sense abortion laws? Mention those to Obama and his ilk and they flip out. Even one abortion law would allow the right to get their foot in the door to eventually overturn Roe V. Wade, they say.
It works the other way too. Even one anti-gun law would allow the left to get their foot in the door and overturn the second amendment, I say.

Re: Washington Times Editorial: Obama's gun lies
EVERYTHING is our fault.... the guns, the drugs... hell next they will say that the weather is because of all the HOT AIR in Washington is sucking everything up from the south and over them....
WHEN are people going to realize that these drug cartels have used guns for years.. and alot of times they have killed with machetes..... HMMMMMMM.... where are they made ?? Peoria IL ???? That will be our fault too...
Same as here... guns dont kill.. PEOPLE do.... and as long as they are sending drugs here, those involved are going to get guns.... whether it be from the US or AK's from some third world country.... either way we get the blame....
Build a MOAT filled with alligators, and a 20 foot wall on OUR side.. that will keep everything down there where it belongs........

Re: Washington Times Editorial: Obama's gun lies
Two things others have already mentioned , that I'd like to expand on
1) Im sick and fucking tired of everything wrong with Mexico being the US 's fault !! MAN UP and fix your Country , you have oil resources , amazing coastlines , a rich cultural history , etc . Take some responsibility for yourselves . Mexico currently reminds me quite a bit of the " welfare family " , clearly capable of being self sufficient , but choosing to live it up on the public dole , and claim to anyone who will listen how their problems are all caused by someone else , that very attitude is repulsive , and a slap in the face to those that really are trying to do better and may need a little help .
2) In Dec , The Fort Worth Weekly reported , " In the last five months , 35 agents of the Mexican Federal Prosecutors Office were arrested for corruption . According to the Mexican Attorney General , Eduardo Medina Mora , each of the agents arrested was being paid between $150,000 to $400,000 MONTHLY by the cartels
In late Oct , two high ranking officials with Mexicos's Office on Organized Crime , part of the Attorney General's Office , were arrested for supplying a Sinaloa cartel with information on coming raids . Each of those officials were being paid $400,000 per MONTH !
During the same period , an Interpol Agent working with the US DEA at the American Embassy in Mexico City was also caught being paid $30,000 MONTHLY for supplying information to drug cartels ."
If the cartels can afford to pay MILLIONS , if not TENS OF MILLIONS of dollars a month in payoff money , to cops who make an average salary of $ 500.00 a month , the corruption problem isnt going to stop , and they sure as hell dont need to buy guns by going to Uncle Bob's Bait and Tackle Shop in Texas , Arizona or New MexicoSi vis pacem, para bellum

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but believe me, it's on the damned list.
