Obama wants to put 1,500 National Guardsmen along the US/Mexico Border, i wonder for what purpose for the drug dealers or the illegal immigrants ? what could the NG do? can they make arrests?

In the past they have been there as support for the border patrol, providing assistance in locating tunnels and border jumpers, they did nothing involving stopping this, they weren't allowed to carry weapons
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

I'd guess it's an attempt to curb the drug traffiking and violence associated with it. I'll give him credit for trying something.

I'll give him credit too...but only if those NG men and women are armed adequately to defend themselves.

If they "shoot first" then the victim will sue the gov, get all kinds of $$$ and the NG will be arrested. History dictates that those patrolling the border cannot shoot drug smugglers, if they do, they do time.

Sad, but true. I support his actions but only if he removes the crazy barriers that prevent them from adequately allow them to do their job. Personally, I would quit using our troops so quickly abroad, bring them home and make border security a priority. Shorten rotations to keep troops alert and structure policies in support of them being able to actually do something. Think of the massive amount of money we would save. What is the downside?
