Default What... if we lose the fight.

As the pro-gun "party" , we have our ups and downs. The path to protect our right to arms is an uncertain one. It's very well possible that, eventually, legal firearms in America will be a thing of the past.

As we all know, it's not like we're gonna completly repeal the second amendment overnight. Now it's just machine guns, "dangerous" ammo, magazine capacities limitation, folding stocks, and barrel shrouds. Depending on what school gets shot up, or whatever weapon is featured in that new hollywood-action movie, soon they could very well ban semi-automatic technology, then pump-chambered weapons, then lever and bolt, until next thing you know.. We're scratching out the second amendment.

I always hear the mentality: If they banned guns, there would be mass-rebellion. Firearm owners across the country would be staking out their houses, staging multi-day standoffs with the authorities from their barricaded houses. But we've already had so much bogus gun control, and you don't hear about this. Too many other countries that used to have firearm culture, just like us, have effectivly turned into giant gun-free zones, yet, we never heard a single signifigant news story of rebellion.

In the case that we "lose" this uphill battle, what should we do? Hand over our guns? Keep them illegally? Leave the country? Or do they pry them from our cold dead hands?

"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security." -Declaration of Independence

When are we justified (IF we are justified), as the people, to "throw off" this government decision?

At the risk of sounding like a dick, this has been discussed ad nauseum.

    To summarize...
A few dozen people state that the government must take their guns from their cold, dead hands. A few dissenters say it's better to hand over the guns and get them later, and/or that it's better to live life unarmed than to not live at all. A few more posters end up somewhere in between, and/or think they are clever by mentioning boating accidents.

Then myself and/or a few other posters bring up how Americans in general won't support a revolution, and all on-topic conversation ceases. Then, there will probably be a few accusations of being "anti-American" for suggesting such a thing, and Godwin's Law will be invoked. We may go back and forth a few more times, with the occasional member with fewer than 30 posts saying "from my cold, dead hands!" A mod may then lock the thread, or it may just die.

Yeah, pretty much what Imperialism said.

    Great post man.

I think this topic is beyond ad-nauseum, and more into the fringe of ad-diarrheum.

The way this country is turning into little Mexico, and with all the other subcultures seemingly overthrowing everything that used to define what it means ot be American, I see no rebellion happening. I see masses of lemmings walking line abreast to the turn in station to hand over their weapons. Sure, there will be the occasional mini-uprising or a few Randy Weavers out there, but they'll be quickly vanquished and swept under the rug. Our great country is going straight to hell in a big ass hand basket, and we're sitting back watching it all go down.

Its not the same as it used to be when it meant something to be a Red Blooded American, proud to own a gun and ready to use it against a tyranical government. Those days are long gone. Red Blooded Americans are becoming dinosaurs, being replaced the wave of illegal immigration and political correctness, and anti American sentiment. Our country is becoming another Roman empire, soon to be washed away with the sands of time. I hate to be this pessimistic about this subject but thats the way I feel. I hope I can say I will fight the tyranny when it hits the fan, but who knows what I'll do. If looking down a multitude of gun barrels, all pointed my way by big brother, with a choice to either capitulate or turn my children into orphans well, color me bent over..."please sir may I have another!".........

You shot your argument in the ass with the first sentence, and, strangely enough, there doesn't appear to be a bullet hole.

This country was built on immigration, and at least one of the respondents in this thread so far is an immigrant, as is his wife.

There's "American," and your concept of "Red-blooded 'Mercans," and I'm proud to be among the former.

If it does happen then at that point you have to make a life or death decision. Either you are going to team up with others and stand your ground, or go out on your knees giving in. Either way it is gonna be a huge split on the issue.
One has to ask them self if a door to door gun confiscation happens and I do not comply is a possible gun battle with armed personnel really worth it leaving our families without a parent, brother etc.?

Unfortunately, King, I think Poonie "almost" stumbled upon a real issue. And it has nothing to do with Mexicans.

Our way of thinking in this country, freedom and rugged individualism, has been in decline for a long time. It is giving way to worshiping government as God and considering it the solution to all problems. I work with professional immigrants every day, and I have helped many get citizenship. Most, be they recently naturalized kids or even people who became citizens 20 years ago, have no regard for freedom. The kids get a pass I guess since that is a problem with even ones who have been here for generations. Look at the thread discussing the demise of high school riflery teams for an example.

The rest? They are not to blame. When they came here, they came for opportunity - money. Nothing wrong with that. They probably expected they would learn our customs and what it means to be American. They were instead taught, by "red blooded Mercans" like me, that there is no American culture or set of values and it was up to them to tell us what to do. Many bring their socialist ideas from Europe or their lack of understanding of our form of freedom from Asia. And they thrive in this environment and do less to help our causes than we do. It's not helping, it's making it worse. Less because of them, more because of us.

I also meet a few people that came to USA not only for opportunity but also for freedom. Most I have met come from Russia, to single out a demographic. THEY will be the "from my dead cold hands" people that many pretend to be a part of. Including the kids. Also people like the most respectable King, who for whatever reasons, chooses to throw his lot in with us dinosaurs.
