Still blaming his 10-year-old victim, Catasauqua man gets 10-40 years for rapes

A 32-year-old Catasauqua man insisted Thursday that his 10-year-old rape victim was partly to blame for the attacks.

Eric German, who raped the girl repeatedly, insisted that she came onto him and initiated the contact.

His comments disgusted Lehigh County Judge Maria L. Dantos, who sentenced German to 10 to 40 years in state prison, the most he could receive under his plea deal. In January, German pleaded guilty to rape of a child.

''I know what I did was wrong,'' he said. ''It should have never happened. She is responsible for some of it, and I take responsibility too.''

German told investigators after his arrest, ''Hey, I'm the victim here,'' according to authorities.

Dantos said German doesn't ''get it at all.''

''You took her life away,'' the judge said. ''If I had the opportunity, sir, I'd make sure you'd never see the light of day.''

Dantos ruled that German is a sexually violent predator, meaning he'll have to register his address under Megan's Law for the rest of his life after his release. She also ordered him to have no contact with the victim and no unsupervised contact with any other minor under age 16.

''Short of murder, it's my opinion that this is the worst thing you can do to a child,'' Chief Deputy District Attorney Matthew Falk said.

The arrest affidavit says the mother took the girl to St. Luke's Hospital-Fountain Hill on May 24, 2008, after she sustained an injury related to the rape and testing of her urine found sperm.

The Catasauqua Police Department was contacted and additional evidence was collected. A July 30, 2008, report from the state police crime lab says the evidence was consistent with German's DNA.

Kevin Smith, a detective with the district attorney's office who has investigated crimes for 21 years, said this case is one of the most ''disgusting'' cases he's ever had to deal with.

''This child is ruined,'' he said. ''I don't say that lightly. This child is ruined.''

I am glad he got the max... but still feel it isn't enough for what he did that that CHILD.....

Unfortunately these scum are kept away from the GP because they will be in danger. I don't agree with separating them at all, I say let prison justice prevail.
