Default Gun Laws and Murder Rates

Notice that the title isn't gun laws and gun death rates. Unlike the sleazy spinmeisters at the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence and the Brady Campaign I'm not cherry picking data to make a false point. In their 2013 State Scorecard Why Gun Laws Matter they claim that gun control works because there is allegedly a 70% overlap of strict gun control and low gun death rates. Reality looks a little different.

It's easy to confuse correlation with causality. For example, NYC has a significantly lower violent crime rate -- and far more restrictive gun laws -- than Philadelphia. They're also far more likely to capture, convict, and incarcerate their violent criminals.

NYC is also even more of a police state than Philly. It may have less crime but who wants to deal with the rest.

I'd rather deal with the problems associated with too much freedom than those associated with too little. (I think I heard something like that before )
