Default Recommend me a .22 Rifle for under 300$...

I'm looking for a .22 rifle for under 300$ as the title suggests.

I'd like it to shoot .22LR but being able to shoot other .22 ammo would be nice.

I have a strong preference for bolt guns but lever action might be cool too. Not interested in single shot and prefer magazine fed but obviously most (if not all?) lever guns are tube fed.

I'm most likely going to be shooting open sight so it must have adjustable iron sights. However, it being tapped for a scope or having a rail would also be a plus.

I prefer wooden stocks but synthetics aren't out of the question.

Not really looking to put money into the gun out of the box, so the trigger shouldn't be like sandpaper. I can do minor work myself though and having a trigger kit available at a later date might be nice.

I'd like to keep the cost as low as possible without sacrificing reliability and accuracy.

Hopefully I've painted an okay picture of what I want.

    Thanks in advance!

About a dozen or so years ago I bought a used Marlin Glenfield Model 25, I think I paid $40.00. Best damn money I've ever spent. I spent more than that putting a scope on it. I'm sure it was well used before I got it and between my sons and I the thing has seen thousands upon thousands of rounds and still can drive tacks at 100yds.

If you want new Marlin has the 925, I haven't shot one, but I imagine they still make a nice plinking rifle and it's probably well under $200.00.

Henry lever action has not let me down, and I was shooting ragged holes with the thing this weekend with 22lr, after shooting a couple rounds of 22 Short.

Price is right, made in the US, and great customer service.

CZ makes a very accurate bolt 22, but it's not really in your price range. The Marlin 925 is a pretty good little 22 also and the MSRP is only $205 so you may find it for less. It has a detachable magazine and will only accept 22LR. The Marlin 981 is about the same price, a bolt but with a tubular magazine and it will fire 22S, 22L, or 22LR.

My kids each got a Savage bolt action, mag fed with accutrigger for Christmas....nice guns! Should fit the bill at under $200 also!

Thank you all for the replies so far...keep them coming.

I have lusted for a Henry for a while now. However, a few things keep me from "biting the bullet."

Firstly, the barrel length is a bit shorter than I'd like. The Marlins are all at 22". They also cost a bit more. I know you get what you pay for, but I am on a budget.

I like the look of the Marlin 925 and 981T. Not crazy about the tubular magazine, but being able to shoot all manner of .22 ammo is a nice trade off...plus the magazine capacity is quite a bit larger than the 925 and the Henry as well.

So far the 981T is ahead in my mind.

I'll check out CZ and Savage next.

The CZ looks out of the price range.

But the Savage Mark II F and the Stevens 300 (listed on the Savage site) seem like they might be in the running now too.

Both of those are just a hair cheaper than the Marlin models.

I'd like a little more feedback on these though.
