Have you made any gun purchases against the advice of friends?
Looking at a purchase of a 5.7x28 Accelerator for target shooting. Very futuristic looking. At least I thinks so. it si the kind of gun you either like or hate. I do LIKE it. the caliber is useful only for small game and/or target shooting. Currently i could not use this semi-auto in PA for hunting.
My friends are skeptical but I am thinking of going against there advice and buying anyway.
Have you ever done that??
By the way, the same shop has a BEAUTIFUL .308 Remington camo Marine Corps sniper rifle with issued (expensive) scope and bi-pod on consignment. (all in camo) It looks like something right out of a Hathcock movie. (maybe it is) $1500. IF I had the money !!!

Re: Have you made any gun purchases against the advice of friends?
Years ago, a friend of mine told me that "a CZ-75 is a piece of crap from a foreign manufacture. Only an idiot would buy one"...
Call me an idiot. When in truth, I feel he is the idiot.
Go with what works for you, and you alone. You're the one that will be using it.

If you have friends who advise you not to buy guns my advice is to get new friends.

Re: Have you made any gun purchases against the advice of friends?
I sure have, when I was younger and just had to have something cool and new...
The Intratec CAT9 (AKA 9mmJam'Omatic) comes to mind as does the Calico .22 rifle (AKA crappy mag winder design rifle)
Now I stay away from such firearms.
I don't trust that companies that make things like that Accelerator will be in business forever and as such you could end up with a paperweight someday.
I'd consider an AR57 upper if I were in the market for something in 5.7.
But hey, in the end it's your choice, if you like it buy it!

Re: Have you made any gun purchases against the advice of friends?
I had a Calico .22, the top mount 100 round drum. I called it a wind up toy. Mine came with 3 drums, and I sold it shortly after purchase for a nice profit.
The TEC-22 was shunned by some of my peers. What can I say, a semi pistol that takes 10/22 magazines...whats not to like? If only it had a folding stock...LOL!

I have been warned by friends not to SELL certain guns in the past. Really wish I had listened to them.

Re: Have you made any gun purchases against the advice of friends?
guns only once... Emptymag talked me out of a Ruger 10-22..
not because they suck .. but because I wanted something " TAC-A-COOL" "AR like "...wanted to add a bunch of after market crap on it .. he said if you want something AR like... buy something like an AR so I bought a 15-22 and glad I did...
now other stuff like motorcycles about everyone in my family .. they said ...oh you will just end up hurting or "KILLING" yourself on it ... HA!! I proved them wrong for about 8 years!! then I totaled my bike and spent a week in the hospital all busted up...

Re: Have you made any gun purchases against the advice of friends?
I don't always believe what I see or hear, so that being said...there are times when you must "scratch that itch" and give something a try.
I personally wouldn't have bought that firearm you are talking about, OP, but that's just me. As someone else said, if you want something 5.7...get AR57, which is the least expensive 5.7 item. I've owned the FN FsN, PS90 and AR57...all are made well and good products. The one you bought is unknown quality, which normally means a POS. Not to mention it's a no name company to boot. Odds are you will have issues with their product.
Of all of my friends, I'm the one that they come to for advice about firearms. I like to try different platforms to see what works and what does not work. I wouldn't waste my time or money on that Excel Arms.

If I had friends they could have talked me out of buying a Glock.
