Maybe the economy is as bad as they say...
Found out this afternoon that the project I'm working on has to cut down on contract positions due to some budget cuts. Yup, that's me. Been there five years now. I do have three months to find something new though. I work with great people and they wanted to give me as much notice as possible to find a new gig.
I guess I'll be polishing up the resume this week. If anyone needs a software developer position filled, I'm available.
Oh well, maybe I'll end up better off.

Re: Maybe the economy is as bad as they say...
I wish you well, I hope you find a new job soon , It is tough to work on resumes, and job search, but it will pay big dividends in the future, don't forget to apply to the Federal , Stae and Local governments, they will provide pensions and benefits, . The work is never strenuous. I didn't work in IT , but the IT people were usuallly laid back as there was not a lot of work to be done.

Actually, it's worse than they say.
Those clowns at the Fed are telling us inflation is 3.5%.
But, if you factor in the stuff we actually buy (food & energy), it's more like 11%.
retail sales are up at Walmart, but they're down just about everywhere else. The malls are dead, restaurants aren't very busy.
We had a yard sale last week and aside from selling a handful of collectables to a dealer, we only made $40.

If you're interested in moving to the more awesome end of the state, PM me with a copy of your resume. I'm the IT guy at a small software company where we're building a SQL-based product, and we may have a position available.
Of course, you'd have to renounce your Eagles/Phillies/Flyers loyalty.Kevin Singleton, Potawatomi - {ZRT - Sector 4}

Now everything is directly related to the price of fuel. Always has been, but not as transparent now.
Our company just let 10 drivers go, and the trucks are for sale. Transportation is now outsourced. Management says if oil stablizes, he'll consider buying new, more efficient rigs.
IT has been trimmed back, luckly I am top senoir'.
I do have to say that retail is booming here in Allegheny county. Still an hour wait at the restaraunts on Friday & Staurday nights, and they are still building more retail, and dining establisments.
Kypt: Sorry to hear about your immediate situation. What is your specialty? What area are you in, and can you move around? I work for a large IT consulting Corp, we might want to see your resume, but mobility is sometimes required for the contract assignments. There are also contract to hire positions.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the kind words everyone.
Thanks, but moving too far isn't an option right now...and I'd rather live in a box on Broad St. living off dead rats than renounce my Philly sports loyalties.
I mainly do PL/SQL and UNIX scripting, but I've also done a bunch of Visual Basic stuff. We use Oracle databases and Manugistics (a whole nickel goes to anyone thats ever heard of that) supply chain planning software.

Unless you are a real Philly fan, you just wouldn't understand.

I am in the West as well. While you are searching a new, might want to check out http://www.rentacoder.com.
Companies post projects they need done, and developers bid on them. I have done a few projects in my pajamas
