Just curious.... why no calls to boycott the NFL
Just a point about the NFL. They seem to be pretty anti gun. They have policies against carrying in their facilities at games as shown by the recent article about not allowing off duty cops to carry in the stadiums.
http://www.bizpacreview.com/2013/10/07/new-nfl-policy-bans-off-duty-officers-from-having-guns-at-games-84805
Starbucks (a private company) decided to put out a memo about how they would prefer people not carry but they would not do anything if they did and many started the boycott chants, writing letters etc....
The NFL (another private entity) seems to be more anti gun than Starbucks. They already have anti gun policies in place. Yet I have not seen any calls to boycott attending their games, refusals to buy their gear, not watch on t.v, ignore the Superbowl etc...... We even have members talking about creating a fantasy football league.

My question is, why do some companies seem to get a pass when it comes to their being anti gun, while others get run through the wringer? (Ahem, Buffalo Wild Wings) They are all privately owned companies, and they get to set the rules that they feel comfortable with. But why do some get a "turn the cheek" attitude and others get the "Dicks" treatment?

I've said it before, if the environmental movement was serious they'd be going after professional sports as a huge contributors of waste of energy, fuel and huge amounts of trash sent to landfills. But no one wants to be bothered with going after the circuses that they enjoy so much with their bread.

It seems professional sports get a pass on everything because people like them so much.
Kinda like how during a Steeler's game you can walk around downtown with open beers in your hands as long as you are walking in the general direction of the stadium. Cops won't even look twice at you. But if you have a beer in your hand on a sidewalk any other day, they throw the book at you.

Re: Just curious.... why no calls to boycott the NFL
I utterly despise the NFL for many reasons. One, absolutely no standards for off field conduct--thugs, felons, and scumbags abound yet it's supposedly something families are supposed to enjoy together and kids emulate their heroes. The scum should be kicked out without hesitation, no celebrity special treatment. If you could get fired from any job for doing what they do, then the standard should be higher with the elevated $$$ and public exposure rather than lower. Moral decay of society may sound like a hokey thing to rant about, but in this case it's undoubtedly true and a real problem.
Second, the socialism/corporatism is DISGUSTING and anti American. They sell tickets, TV rights, advertising, and fan memorabilia, so WTF do they need taxpayer funding for anything?!??!? This is supposed to be about individual achievement and business making money because it's what the people want, but instead they team up with corrupt leftist big city mayors for special treatment including public financing of stadiums, insider favors to obtain the real estate for stadium building, tax breaks, etc. Instead they should be aggressively lobbying to repeal all the tax and regulatory burdens on EVERYONE--but no, they make it all insider favoritism to be auctioned off for political perks.
Third, the game itself is so artificial with all the rules manipulation and complete disconnect from its point of origin--no touching there, there, there, there, or there...that hit is too hard, that hit is too high, that hit is too...well, we don't like it...do the hokey pokey and turn yourself around. I'm sorry, but what do people work out, wear protective equipment, and get paid mega $$$ in expectation of potential occupational hazards for...is this supposed to be preschool? And the rulebook supposed to be like the federal tax code?
Then the anti gun bit. DISGUSTING. Intolerable. They know full well that the stadiums are in cities which are inherently dangerous without personal protection. They know that when THEY want safety, they want guns around defending THEM. But how about the people who foot the bill for all this, that pay hard earned money to afford them their lives of fame and luxury? Nope, not their concern. That kind of detached disregard and deliberate withholding of life from others is sociopathic.
Others may conveniently excuse the NFL, but I for one do not. It is wholly repugnant to my values as an American.Last edited by Yellowfin; October 8th, 2013 at 01:21 PM.

The same reason that everytime the pros go on strike and everyone declares, "I'm done with the NFL!" all the fans return as soon as the games start up.

I honestly don't believe the NFL is anti-gun, I think they are more concerned about safety at their games and not 'sticking it to the firearms community'. They also banned anyone from carrying bags that are not transparent into stadiums. And yes I started a thread about starting a fantasy football league, and apperenty you have no idea what that entails, because starting a fantasy football league does not translate me into approving the NFL's decision on firearms.

Re: Just curious.... why no calls to boycott the NFL
You're missing the point of the post. I'm not condemning you for wanting a fantasy football league. Your business is your business. My question is why do some companies get a pass from the firearms community when it comes to guns (like the NFL) and others are condemned.
Your post was just a convenient example of the NFL being viewed in a positive way and used/celebrated by members of the firearms community despite their policy. If you had said lets meet at Starbuck's every Sunday to watch the game I would be willing to bet a lot of people would say "Fuck Starbucks" they don't allow open carry/conceal carry any more. Meanwhile missing the part that the NFL has the same policy at its venues.
Most of the places that bar carrying cite "safety" as their reason for not allowing it. Nothing different about the NFL using that reasoning.
So the question stands, why do some businesses like the NFL get a pass based on their no firearms policy while others are condemn for the same policy?
