Default Sold gun to gunshop - no record

Somewhere around Christmas of 2007 I sold a handgun to Brown's Armory. A Baretta PX-4 Storm .40. The owner gave me the money and said "ok, thanks" I asked him if we need to do any paperwork or transfer and he insisted that we didn't have to do anything. Is this correct? If not what action do I take from here?

Around the same time I sold him a MAK-90 and he took my name and address but nothing on the above handgun.

I sold a hand gun to a gun shop recently and all i got was a hand written receipt from the shop. I asked if there was anything else and they told me all that's all that was needed in addition to logging it into their book.

Let me get this straight. You walked in and he gave you cash for a handgun, you then left the store without so much as exchanging names? I'd say thats not kosher. If thats what you're saying happened.

There is no "paperwork" required to be given to you if you sell a firearm to a FFL. Period.

That said, many will give you a receipt, particularly if they use a computer based inventory/POS system. And I would wager all will give you a receipt if you ask for one.

As you will soon find out from one of the many dealers here, that is all any shop does. When they resell it, the buyer will go through PICS. Dealers don't have to.

But you know what the answer to the question is if'n you don't ask..... so if your uncomfortable not getting one, ASK!

Last gun I sold didnt have any papers back in my hand aside from some greenbacks. But I dont need a receipt...... to each their own eh?

The OP is ambiguous, but he doesn't mention supplying the FFL with a name to put in his bound book, leaving a gaping hole in the "acquisition" part of his records. Which only matters if the FFL is operating according to law....

Very true. And this is important because the acquisition being logged into the bound book is, in essence, the disconnecting action from your ownership if the gun is ever traced through you.

Add "Assuming proper logging" to my post

Thanks for your help on this. I think I will see if he'll give me some sort of record of the sale just on the chance that he could do something illegal with it. Not that that is likely but it is a possible.
