You see a shadowy figure in a dark alley — what do you do?
You see a shadowy figure in a dark alley — what do you do?

Excerpt:
Guns and pepper spray
Some people buy personal protection devices, such as pepper spray or handguns, thinking they make them less vulnerable.
But there are downsides to arming yourself.
“Too often we see people buy stuff but they don’t have the proper training,” Mateo said.
Three questions people should ask before investing in personal protection devices, according to Mateo, are:
nAre you able to get training for the weapon you will carry?
nWhat are its limitations?
nAre you prepared to use it?
There are limitations to things such as pepper spray.
For example, if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction, the spray could be blown back into the victim’s eyes.
But even assuming the device will work as intended, not everyone is able to deploy it in a real-life situation.
“Given the situation and all the stresses going on, mentally, are you prepared to use it?” Mateo said. “That’s a big thing.”
Mateo wonders how many people actually do pay attention to their surroundings.
His informal surveys suggest many do not.
“I see one in every four or five cars sitting in traffic (and) the drivers are on cell phones,” he said. “I even see people reading magazines.”

I'd pull out the pineapple grenade and tell 'em to back off or we all go down together.

But Rule, you forgot: What if you are already IN the alley!??? DUH DUH DUH
Answer: You turn around and walk the other way while maintaining situational awareness.
I fail to see why risk avoidance is such a foreign concept to people. I see it as the first solution to just about any dangerous situation.Dan P, Founder & President, Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association

ROFL
I'm of the same opinion. For some reason people seem to think that because you're carrying you don't have to worry about walking down the alley anymore. Hell, since I started carrying, I've gotten more paranoid about avoiding bad areas -- simply because I want to avoid even the possibility of having to use it.The material presented herein is for informational purposes only, is not guaranteed to be correct, complete, or up to date, does not constitute legal advice and does not establish an attorney-client relationship.
