Share this with anti-gun people; It's eye-opening!!
This is a work in progress and is just one draft. I have about 10 different drafts for different groups of people (anti-gun, pro-gun, semi-gun, certifiably-gonzo-gun-wacko, gimme-gun etc). I have a few that are short and sweet for those who really understand what is going on. My punctuation really needs work as I'm terrible at it, but my point is made. Please tell me your opinions.
I need a name for this poem.. Maybe "Death of a Great Nation"??
If you like this, PLEASE openly post it on other forums you frequent.
First came the ban on automatic assault weapons,
I did not speak up,
Because I didn't need such a weapon.
Then came the ban on “assault” weapons and “assault” ammunition,
Again I remained silent,
For I had no quarrels with anyone;
I felt the Police were there to “Serve and protect”,
The government had a strong military in which I could trust.
Next came the ban on pistols and newly made rifles,
I kept my mouth shut,
As this made no difference because I already owned these.
Finally, martial law was declared because of an act of "terror”;
A new constitution was forged, severely limiting rights of individuals;
Gone was the right to free speech, free press, the right to own property, the right to bear arms,
Gone were States rights and Habeas Corpus, the right to a speedy, just, fair trial
Gone were our beloved Republics, Commonwealths, States and our Democracy.
The time for action through words was gone,
It was time to stand and fight,
But it was too late,
We were helpless because we had no worthy guns with which to fight.
Only then, when the government took actions against The People,
Did I truly understand the reasoning for the Second Amendment;
The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Encroachment upon one (gun or person) is an encroachment upon all!

What is “Homeland Defense”?
It is the enemy of that nation saying: “You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.” Isoroku Yamamoto WWII - Fleet Admiral and Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy

Actually there is nothing contradictory about it.
Copyright establishes legal authorship, so if you are the author and you want to be legally recognized as such, then you must indicate your copyright.
One of the rights of a copyright holder is to be able to control distribution. Many people that freely distribute their written material will still use their copyright to ensure that any reproductions are made without alterations and correctly attribute the original author.
I'm not suggesting that you spend the money to register your copyright with the Library of Congress, but I wouldn't be too cavalier about it either.
Some interesting reading here (http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.pdf).
Just imagine if you become the next famous internet phenomena, but threw your rights away while you were joking.
If you go to the trouble of writing something that you are proud of, you might as well get the credit for it too.
Look at the very tiptop of this (or any other PAFOA) page where it says - "The right of the people to bear arms in defense of themselves and the state shall not be questioned."Vortex
"The United States is a nation of laws, . . . . badly written and randomly enforced." - generally attributed to Frank Zappa

Re: Share this with anti-gun people; It's eye-opening!!
Thank you for your response sir! I appreciate the informative information! What I meant when agreeying that it was contradictory was that it if it was "truly free" then I would not need a copyright. I do understand your point of view and it is correct. Just as the owner of a piece of music can release it at their own free will, so can an author. Much thanks
Also, thank you for informing me of the motto. I thought that it was that, but had some doubts b/c the motto was suggested as a title for the poem (a little long if you ask me).
Thanks again !! +1

I've also seen this style of writing used for the gay rights movement. It usually follows along:
First they came for the jews, but I did nothing.
Then they came for the blacks, and I did nothing.
Then they came for the Gays but I did nothing.
And then, when there was no one left, they came for me.
And only then I realized the error of my way.
It's just a shame people label us as tin foil heads for thinking this way.

The apparent intent was contradictory.
