Reloading Old Egyption 8mm Mauser
I have a fair ammount of Berdan Primed Egyption 8MM from I believe the 50's. I would like to pump some of this through my K98 but I have no idea what type of abuse it took over the years, Heat, Cold, Vibration, Moisture etc, Rather than dumping it or taking a chance on destroying a fine gun I considred pulling the Bullets, dumping the powder and reloading with fresh modern powder. I know it's a corrosive primer but a water wash is cheap.
Can anyome recommend a powder make and charge for use in a K98 using the Military Case and original FMJ Boat Tail Round?
Thanks,
Eddie O

Re: Reloading Old Egyption 8mm Mauser
I shot some old(1940's headstamp)Turkish 8MM about 2 years ago.
I shot 5 rounds, all 5 needed 2 hits from the firing pin to go bang. (the 1990's yugo. stuff went bang on the first pull)
You may have more problems with the old primers than the old powder.

ive gone thru about 150 rounds of 1940 FN headstamped 8mm with out a single dud. but i make sure to give the Mauser a nice bath and cleaning afterward.
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.
