Obama: "I believe in the Second Amendment."

There is a longer version of this video in the CBS Link but it wouldn't embed so I posted the Youtube one. The Mexican reporter basically asks him if he can "Veto" the Second Amendment.

"The Second Amendment in this country is part of our Constitution and the president of the United States is bound by our Constitution," he said. "So I believe in the Second Amendment. It does provide for Americans the right to bear arms for their protection, for their safety, for hunting, for a wide range of uses. That does not mean that we cannot constrain gun runners from shipping guns into Mexico."

"It's not a matter of a particular bill... it's enforcing the laws already on the books."

I saw this article and it put a smile on my face. While it probably isn't much more than Obama trying to gain support for 2012 it does accomplish two things:

1. It shows us that it is extremely unlikely he will sign H.R. 308 in the extremely unlikely chance it makes it to his desk.

2. It takes the wind out the Brady Campaign's sails. For weeks I've been watching them posting on Facebook about their eager anticipation of Obama's rumored gun control speech. I think it's safe to say now that he won't be making any such speech.

Suck it, Brady Campaign.

Just look for the regs he and his administration will try to shove through front groups like EPA, DHS, BATF.

What is the point of making new laws if the President (sworn to protect and enforce the law) just ignores the ones he doesn't like and forces his way around the laws that get in his way. I looked past his skin color and realized, this White MOFO has to go in 2012.

I cannot help but hear he state his belief as if we were talking about Unicorns and Vampires. For example:

Obama: "I believe in___________"
Unicorns
Zorba the Lake God
The String Theory
Mexican, but my wife will not let me eat it
the masculine use of eye liner
the goodness of taxation
the Eagles

This is just posturing, do not let it fool you. Politicians believe in getting re-elected and maintaining power and getting campaign contributions and that is all.

Of course he missed the point of the 2nd by about 1,000 miles, but...

If I had to guess what he said without watching the video, I would have imagined much worse.

Also, I agree with the part about taking the wind out of the Brady Campaign's sails. Now if only he actually believed what little he did say in support of the 2nd Amendment, we'd be in better shape. Unfortunately, this is just an act in preparation for 2012.

If that was true and every politician actually did so, I would stop caring about polictics because my rights would actually be protected even by those that hate those protections..
