long range hardware
thought i'd step up to some long range shooting.....or at least the ability to do so.
so in my world that means 32'' of blued octagon barrel with nearly a half inch worth of bore, in front of a falling block, which neatly hides a brass cartridge housing 70grns of oh so sweet black powder and finally capped by 405 grns of hard lead. all of this can speel only one thing.
SHARPS!
as the indians said "shoot today, kill tomorrow".
i'm stoked.
anybody seen any buffalo?
at 1000 yards the bullet will roughly have a 100 foot, yes 100 feet, not inches, drop.Last edited by brian; September 26th, 2012 at 05:25 PM.

Re: long range hardware
BEAUTIFUL rifle! I've never shot one before, but they're amazing rifles. I'd love to see one get taken long range besides "quigley down under".

Are you going to put on a synthetic stock? Maybe a nice 8x32x56 Sightron? One last question, where do you put the mag?
Yea that should be good

Re: long range hardware
A guy named Loren Brown was shooting a blackpowder .45-70 Sharps at the Reade Range during a 600yd F-class match with success a few years ago.

Re: long range hardware
Brian,
Here is my long range rifle. C. Sharps Arms model 1874 "Boss Gun". Grade I
.45-90 Sharps. 34" Badger hand cut rifling, hand lapped barrel, 1" heavy octogon barrel, presentation Grade wood, Even had my initials engraved on the receiver.
500 gr. lead paper patched bullet in front of 85 gr.Fg. This is a true 1000 yard rifle. If you are going to shoot long range you need to replace that rear sight with one with alot more elevation.
Have fun, JeffLast edited by Pukindog; March 17th, 2009 at 11:50 PM.
