I just ordered a new Saiga. It's my entry into the AK realm. I am a PTR guy but the ammo prices are keeping me from shooting as much as I'd like. I've heard a lot of good things about the gun, and could'nt see myself spending $1000 for an Arsenal. I probably won't do the conversion to it except add a brake to it. Any advise?

Do the conversion so you can use surplus mags. It's pretty simple.

If you brake it you might have made an configuration that isn't imported. From what I've read/been told that's a 922r Violation. I'm assuming you're looking at the new DPH brake?

As for advice? Need to know what you want the gun for?

If you just want something cheaper than your PTR to shoot, I think you're going to see a drop in accuracy from your PTR (don't know what the MOA is on them). Depending on your ammo the stock saigas are 2-3 MOA generally. The trigger linkage is part of that problem, along with the stock sights. Feed it decent ammo, put a scope on it I've read 1 MOA.

I converted mine, put an underfolder on it. So obviously I'm more interested in going bang a bunch of times as opposed to nailing the tin can out at 100yds
