Good Scope for 22 Target Squirrel Pistol
Greetings,
I recently purchased my first 22 Caliber target pistol that I plan on shooting for fun and maybe a little varmit or squirrel hunting. I need to put some optics on it and I am not sure what type would fit my needs and what would be a decent product without breaking the bank. Do I go for one of the red dots or a conventional scope? Do I need to spend one to two hundred dollars or would one of the fifty dollar brands do the job. I have seen many on Ebay in the fifty price range but I am not sure of the quality. Have you had any experience with a NCSTAR or SCOUT scope? If you know of any of the lower priced scopes that will offer decent service please advise. Any advice you can give will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bohunter......

Put a $50 red dot on it. They are good out to 50 yards. If you want to shoot farther you can get a scope. But I like the Red Dots.

The NCstar scopes are junk. I don't often write criticism like that but - just to find out and because they are cheap - i bought two of their reflex sights. They both broke in short order.
As suggested, a $50 red dot will do the trick but not NCStar.

I'm not aware of "Scout" being a brand, generally it is a term for a scope with long eye relief, that can be mounted forward of the receiver (down the barrel) on a rifle, allowing vision around the scope, as well as through. Because your arms are at a similar distance as the eye relief on those scout scopes, a lower magnification power scout scope also works well as a handgun scope.
A red dot is great if you don't want or need magnification. They are fast, quick, light. If you want some magnification, there are still plenty of options - here is one from Midway - http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=396979
Lots of options out there for long eye relief scopes in the 1-4x range.

I have a couple of .22LRs, and you dont need to spend alot of dollars on a scope. If you spend 50-80 bucks on a name brand scope you should be good to go, I have a Swift 4X scope on my Henry Carbine 22 lever, And I can hit a squirrel on it's bean at 40 yards.

IMO one of the better "bargain" scopes is called Banner. They are made by Bushnell and have decent quality. On a 22lr you could just about put anything on it with good results since there is no kick and your range wont go much beyond 100 yards. Although red dots have there place I prefer to bring those varmits up and close and personal before squeezing the trigger. I would do a traditional magnifying scope.

My Buckmark wears a Millett SP1 red dot. It's the least expensive "good" red dot scope available, in my opinion. You can find them for around $70.

Im assuming its a six shooter or 9 shooter , if so then a regular good eye relief scope would be best. Red dots are a pain on revolvers you tend to throw off the dot as you stage the trigger.
