Default Incident with gun in Quakertown

This was on the Morning Call site this morning

    http://www.mcall.com/news/breaking/a...,6774525.story

A man waving a gun near a gas pump outside a Wawa on Route 309 near Quakertown this morning was taken into custody, police said.

The store is located in Richland Township near the Target and across from Pumping Station Road at 600 N. West End Boulevard, which is Route 309. The man's school-aged daughter was in his car when the incident occurred around 6 a.m.

Police are not sure what prompted the incident. The man was taken to the state police barracks in Dublin. The gun was seen on the ground and the young girl was observed crying in the car as police continued to investigate after the man was taken from the scene.

Emergency dispatches said Wawa employees had locked the store to prevent the man from entering.
My first question is, was he really waving the gun around? What with Pro2A's story about being turned in for "brandishing", who knows? I will look forward to more information on this, but keep in mind the newspaper is not always the most accurate source.

My first thoughts exactly. Where's the surveillance camera footage?

The link in the OP now says....

"I thought he was a vagrant," Shumbris said. "I figured he needed a ride because he had a big duffle bag, and he's holding a cat."

Shumbris said the man then pointed the gun toward him and said, "You have a full tank of gas. What are you doing here?"

Shumbris said he backed away and attempted to enter the Wawa, but employees had locked the doors and motioned for him to go to the side of the building. He then took refuge outside the Chick-fil-A building and called 911.

Wow, i'm glad i didn't stop in there. He might have gotten a surprise he wasn't counting on if he pointed the gun at me. Not that i'm looking for any trouble but man, point a gun at me and your going to get the ol blood pumpin a bit. This is really messed up. I hope the kid was okay. Obviously, this guy was a few cards short of a full deck.

Oh, and this wasn't me either . I still think it was that phillyd character - but i guess he'd need to be posting from jail - do they get internet in jail?.

Just remember you have a duty to retreat if possible...not stopping would be the prudent thing to do in a case like this.
It sucks, but what would be a "good shoot" for a cop would probably put you in jail.
Well, pushed 60 too hard so now I am the big SIX-OH. Now I can be a real pain in the ass! And, who says growin' old isn't fun!!

Not quite....the law only requires that if you can do so "with complete safety". One would easily (IMO) argue that if a gun is pointed at you, you remain at risk even as you would attempt to retreat.

Of course, getting the drop on someone that's already pointing a gun at you is a whole other problem.

Damn Wawa...it just pisses me off when guys with full tanks of gas...<cough> I don't even have cat!

Seriously, glad I was not there too. Just goes to show that you never know when and how you will come face to face with a threat. Poor bastard tried to run into the store and they locked the door on him.

Messed up on so many levels. I can't stop thinking about the poor kid.
