    Default Metal Heads (music)

Okay folks, who likes heavy metal - or whatever they call it today?

I grew up listening / watching head bangers ball on mtv when it first came out in the 80's.

My son likes metal too and he's turned me on to some of the newer bands.

He got me listening to (because i won't let him download to his i pod with out me listining to it first) he's 15 but i still want to hear what he's listening to.

Dope -- not too bad (i like die mf die - but that's a little over the top for kids)

Slipknot -- i hate them - but i think i'm going to end up taking him to the concert if they come around this summer.

    I've got him listening to

    Ozzy
    Kid Rock
    Guns n roses
    linkin park
    metallica
    marilyn manson
    papa roach
    rob zombie
    limp bizkit

So, you guys got any others that you listen to and you like? I'm sure there are plenty out there but i'm looking to find a few more bands for us to listen to.

    What are you KIDDING ME?

Not only love it I LIVED it for a few years (road manager)

Let's see here the HELL to begin (gonna be a LONG list)

Judas Priest - just saw the reunion tour 2 years ago - amazing
    Motorhead - Lemmy RULES
    Accept - UDO!
MSG (Michael Schenker Group) - my favorite 'metal' guitarist
    UFO (Michael's first band)
    AC / DC
    Scorpions
    Rainbow
    Ozzy (of course)
Motley Crue (most of their stuff)
    Iron Maiden
    Queensryche
    Van Halen (NOT Van Hagar)
    Dio
    Deep Purple

Now you want to go 'old school' then we have to add these:

    Alice Cooper
Bloodrock (that will make some think!)
    Blue Cheer
    Humble Pie
    Iron Butterfly
Led Zeppelin (anything up to the 4th album)
Mountain (took guitar lessons from Leslie for a while)
    Queen
    Steppenwolf
    Tin Lizzie
    Uriah Heep

Could actually go on forever with the more obscure ones (can anyone say Montrose?) but I'd have been saying WTF .. been a metal head since 13 ( a long LONG time ago)

The mainstream stuff is okay, but I feel that it lacks soul. I'm more drawn to the sub-genre stuff. From my perspective, pagan folk metal is where its at.

Recently, my play lists have consisted mainly of:
Tyr (if the Vikings came back and picked up guitars, they'd sound like Tyr)
    Heidevolk
    Ensiferum
    Turisas
    Eluveitie
    Alestorm (pirate folk metal FTW!)

    The Melvins.
If you want a nice change of pace, listen to Faith No More. Great stuff.

You mean like Polka Tulk and Earth, Ozzy's first two bands?

    Montrose is great. Rock Candy!

Also, I think you meant Thin Lizzy. I love Vagabonds of the Western World. What a great album.

I haven't listened to metal in a while.

If you want to see a fun concert, go see GWAR. I've seen them a few times, I'd go see them again in a heartbeat.
