New Remington 870 with Knoxx.

Even though I have a nicely outfitted Mossberg 500 I brought this home the other day anyways. I bought it stock HD then bought the Knoxx stock and forearm off ebay for a hundred bucks.

What's with the "gap" between where the receiver curves down? Right where the buffer tube would be on an AR? Is the stock "flexy" there? I have been looking at these for my 870 but wasn't sure I liked the way that gap looks/works.

That is where the gun rides, or slides if you will, approx. one inch to reduce recoil. IMO after my first range trip with this stock it is easier on the shoulder but my cheek and jaw took one hell of a beating.
