    Default Browning or Ruger

If it were you, would you pick the Browning Buck Mark or the Ruger Mark III. Please include personal experience with either one or both. Pros and cons will be appreciated. Thanks.

My sister and a good friend have the Browning, and they love it. I have the Mark III, and I am not super-duper happy with it. Maybe it is because I have the shorter barrel and my Mark III tends to be picky with the ammo I use.

Regarding cleaning the pistol, I would have to say that the Browning is far easier to clean than the Mark III. I have cleaned my sister's Buck Mark rifle (same as the pistol except long barrel), and it is easy!! With the Mark III, you have to follow the manual to a T in order to take it apart and put it together. Fortunately, Ruger has an online video to help with this.

I would take a Browning Buckmark over the Ruger Mark III

I would take a Ruger Mark II over a Browning Buckmark.

I'm not a fan of the "safety features" that were put into the Mark III.

I just looked on Browning's Web site. Look at the different styles and options for the Buck Mark you can possibly get - 23!! That sure beats the few options for the Mark III.

And so is the case with the Ruger Mark III. They offer that model twenty different ways.

I suggest you try them both but be sure that you review the manual for cleaning both. Maybe even get the salesman or range officer to break-down and re-assemble both for you to watch. You will likely find that the Buckmark is a breeze to dis-assemble and clean as opposed to the Ruger which to my thinking, is ridiculous and a pain in the neck.

I also have found the Ruger to be picky about ammo so that is something to keep in mind as well.

I have owned at least 10 Ruger semi autos over the years (easy to sell when you need money and easy to replace when you want another). Right now I own a MkIII 22/45 with the 5 1/2 inch bull barrel, eats anything I feed it. The best one I ever owned was a MkII with a 6 7/8 bull barrel, used it for shooting metallic silhouette competition. The only thing I do to them when I get them is to check the feed ramp and if it is a bit rough I polish it a bit (maybe that's why I don't have problems).

Given that, the Browning is a very nice 22. I know several people with them and they are quite happy.

I just happen to like Rugers so that's what I would go with. Once you've taken them down and put them back together a couple times it becomes second nature to do it. Plus Rugers are stronger than all get out.

That's true, itsmyright, but a lot of the models are "Distributor Exclusive" so they may be harder to get.
