Default Philly PD will be allowing .40 and .45 Glocks

In addition to the 9 mm Glocks they have issued for years, Philly is going to allow officers to qualify with and carry .40 and .45 Glocks (personal purchase, not department issue).

So far the models are 21, 21sf and 22. I imagine they'll get some feedback (especially from the plain clothes folks) and maybe add 30 and 30sf (maybe even 36, who knows?) to that list.

Good on them. I think an Officer should be able to carry what they are comfortable with.

i imagine what it amounts to is who is going to pay for the ammo. i am sure an officer would prefer to provide a sidearm that is of their preference.
the ammo gets expensive and for sure as shit i want the cops well practiced.

C'mon, don't you know that Glocks shoot people because they don't have any safeties?!?

Safety is a good tool for tyrants; no one can be against safety.

My understanding is that officers are currently able to get free 9 mm ammo at the range for practice (I think it's like two boxes per session). I'm not sure if that will be extended to .40 and .45 as well.

They require a particular specific manufacturer's round for carry in duty sidearms - I forget the exact ones they listed in the department announcement of the added calibers, but I'm sure they are all JHP. I'll see if I can get a copy of the memo.

In regards to duty handguns, nothing better than carrying 13+1 of 45ACP in a G21SF.
