AR-15 Govt. Profile or HBAR/Varmint
For an accurate 20" barreled AR-15, is the Govt. profile heavy enough, or should a HBAR/varmint be considered? I've been told by Sherluk that the Govt. profile is 3/4" and that the varmint is 1". This would make the varmint 2 lbs. heavier than the govt. - WOW. What about the HBAR? How thick is it?

As Dr. Emmett Brown would say "weight has nothing to do with it".

What are you going to be using it for? If its gonna be a bench target rifle, weight isn't an issue.
Zombie gun, well weight might be an issue then.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515, SteveWag

The varmint and hbar are probably the same weight. The gov't profile is to lighten the barrel. Since you're looking into a 20" rifle, you shouldn't be concernd as much as to the weight, assuming it is going to be used as a plinker, or bullseye shooting.
