Catalogued all of my guns yesterday
I have been meaning to do it for a while and I finally got around to it. I took 2 pictures of each side of every gun. This is strictly for insurance and keeping books...there were no glamour shots with natural lighting and mounds of bullets in the background to make people "ooh and ahh." More importantly though, I worked up an Excel spreadsheet that contains: Make, Model, Serial Number, Caliber, and Major Accessories. Some of this may be overkill considering my small number of firearms compared to most people but I've been wanting to catalog the serial numbers for a while and I figure that I'm setting a good foundation for the future. The only downside is if my wife finds the file and realizes how much stuff I have . What do y'all do as far as records are concerned??

Here is a tip.
Spend $5 and buy a 32meg thumbdrive. Put your file on there.
Hide it.
Do NOT keep this on your computer.==============

Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!”

This is a little ghetto but you can always open your text file or spreadsheet and do a screenshot with 'Print Screen' and paste it into MS Paint and save it. Then upload it to the forum through the image hosting feature.
Not the greatest method but effective and easy. This may not suffice if you've got a huge list that can't be captured in one screenshot.

Re: Catalogued all of my guns yesterday
This is a great idea and everyone should do it and do it early on in their firearms lifetime. I started doing it late last year and everytime I get a new gun I add to it and photograph it. The concept of storing the information offsite is a great idea and I agree with it completely! Unfourtinatly I have not done this yet but I will more than likley do it this weekend and have one of my buddies store the flash drive. Right now I have been using the Excel files that excel2excel had posted up a little while back, its already set up with all the information that I need to store and I stuck the pictures in as well.
Keep up the good work this is a great thing to be done and with good reason, just remember to keep it updated when you buy or sell or it will be completely pointless.
Cheers
Josh

As far as online storage, there are free websites out there, even storage sites ...FTP that are free or close to it.Skeet is a sport where you are better to hit half of each bird then completely blast one and miss the other completely.

Re: Catalogued all of my guns yesterday
I have two records. One is an Excel spreadsheet that lists make, model, caliber, serial #, DATE I acquired it, acquisition cost, and approximate current value. I keep one copy on my computer, and one on a thumb drive. The other is an actual notebook with a "pocket" where I list all of the same info as on the spreadsheet, PLUS I can keep my purchase receipts in the pocket. If I ever have to get out, I can grab the notebook and have PROOF that the guns are mine (Can we say lessons learned after what N.O. did?)
Guns are like shoes...a woman should have one in every caliber.
I'm armed and menopausal...Excuse me, did you have something to say?
