Default A service rifle for every occassion

Okay, so here's the idea of the thread-- I give you different environments below and you name which service rifle you'd like for each. Assume that ammo is widely available but that spare parts are not, and you are essentially on your own or part of a group no larger than a fire team in a SHTF situation. Here goes:

    1. Temperate
    2. Arctic
    3. Jungle
    4. Desert
    5. Temperate-- urban

I'm no expert on rifles, but I am pretty sure you really can't go too far wrong with a Kalashnikov.

I mean - exactly how many (including the bazillions of 'clones' and even 'home mades from scratch' ones) are in circulation world wide right now?

Maybe not the best choice for 'sniping', but... for it's proven reliability/durability in every environment known (with under water being the only exception, I think), it's low maintenance requirements and it's extraordinary rock-solid track record, I think you'd be hard pressed to find an AK's true equal as an all-around combat rifle.

Strictly in terms of "combat" scenarios though... when 'sniping' won't be an objective, of course.

Naturally, *I* don't own any of those pinko, commie guns!

...Not until I can finish saving up for one, any way.

I would go with an M16 variant for all of them, just with different barrel lengths if possible.

    1. Temperate - 14.5" or 20"
    2. Arctic - 20"
    3. Jungle - 14.5" or 10.5"
    4. Desert - 20"
    6. Temperate- urban - 14.5" or 10.5"
