Default Which to buy AK or AR???

I already have one of each, but I got a bug to buy another.

For $639 AK47 Rifle Russian Red Style by Lancaster Arms.

For $1199 AR15 Colt 6520 Law & Govt Marked Rifle.

Comment why I should select one over the other.

you should get the AR because $600+ is wayyyyy to much to pay for an AK.

nothing against AKs, but they are what they are...and precision machines, they ain't. the advantage of AKs is that they are very reliable and don't really need to be maintained--but you don't need to pay $600+ to get that in an AK.

of course, you could argue that $1000+ is too much to pay for an AR as well, but you are at least *supposedly* getting something extra for the premium in that colts are *supposedly* more reliable than other brands of ARs.

    just my 2 cents.

    Why not get both?

Buy an AK for about $600 and build an AR (about $600 from I hear).

You will now have multiple of both

Ordinarily I'd say get the foreign-made gun, but assuming from how you said it that money is a non-issue for you: then the Colt gets the vote, by a land-slide. Puns intended.

If I had your cash, it'd be mine by now.

A genuine Colt will always be a Colt; a family heirloom, a yardstick by which all other ARs are measured by (rightly or wrongly). THE AR of ARs. There's a reason Ferraris and Colts share a prancing horse.

That gorgeous parts-kit AKM; well, that will always be just that - a parts-kit AKM no matter how carefully assembled it is/was.

As much as I want to Gepeto-like wish that my superb Century Yugo M70AB2 is a Yugo - it's still just a Yugo parts-kit-based AKM.
Hell, my far-cheaper WASRs are at least real-deal 100% foreign and complete-but-sporterized AKMs when they hit our shores - I can't say that about my Yugo.

If push comes to shove and your up against a wall and have to unload the rifle - which will be worth more? The genuine Colt, or the parts-kit AKM?

It's my opinion but it's your wallet.

If your LE (as your avatar suggests) I would get the AK now and AR later. You can justify a AR to your super more so than a AK for duty if/when they get banned.

Also if your LE you can get discounts on firearms..
