Iraqi shoe-thrower gets three year stretch
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090312/...hrower_verdict
Now we have to see if Obama is going to let this stand.
Was this magazine cover biting parody, or a secret warning?

Re: Iraqi shoe-thrower gets three year stretch
Of course he'll let it stand--for the same reason that no president ever reverses all the abuses of his predecessor, and no president ever investigates his predecessor's crimes. He knows that he'll be out of office someday, and he doesn't want his crimes investigated by his successor.
Back when Bush decided to give Clinton a pass for all his crimes, conservatives chalked it up to Bush being "such a gentleman." They were sort of right: he was obeying the gentleman's agreement between presidents, never to call each other into account.
In this case, if Obama interceded for al-Zaidi, he'd be saying it's OK to dis a President (and arguably, to assault him). If he put out a message like that, he'd spend the rest of his administration in fear of anyone with a shoe (or a cream pie) expressing their opinions on him. Think he wants that? Lets not be silly.Last edited by Adam-12; March 12th, 2009 at 09:33 AM.

Re: Iraqi shoe-thrower gets three year stretch
This guy shuld be considered lucky only getting three years. Hate to see what is gonna happen to the guy who threw a shoe at ahmadenijad in iran. He will probably be publicly hung if they find who is was.

You're right. Obama will leave the task of continuing to dump on the previous administration (when he himself isn't hooking his thumb back over his shoulder and saying "Bush did it, not me!") to his loyal fanbase of brOwnshirts.

Re: Iraqi shoe-thrower gets three year stretch
It was the sub head line on the MSN story. I had a good chuckle. I wanted to say "Hey dickhead, Bush isn't the one that is charging you, prosecuting you, or enforcing the sentence, and he isn't even in office anymore." But that would only fall on deaf ears. Even within our own country.

Re: Iraqi shoe-thrower gets three year stretch
Three years seems like an appropriate sentence, which is odd for a place that thinks cutting off body parts is not cruel or unusual. Its not a slap on the hand but also not cutting off the hand.
