A Penn State student faces charges of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct after police say he fired a gun in the air five times earlier this month.
John R. Nolan, 22, of 1014 S. Pugh St., told police that after a night of drinking on Dec. 4, he "just wanted to shoot his gun," the State College Police Department said.
There were no injuries or damage reported after Nolan shot five rounds with his handgun, police said. Authorities were called to the apartment building at about 3:45 a.m. when the sound of gunshots was reported.
According to court documents, Nolan put his head down and repeatedly said, "I did a stupid thing," as police questioned him about the incident.
Five empty nine-millimeter shell casings were located behind Nolan's apartment.
Nolan told police he shot his gun "up in the air" five times, but he did not say whether the gun was his, police said. After the items were confiscated, Nolan denied owning or having access to other firearms, police said.
Nolan is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Jan. 20 in Centre County Court, court officials said.

How nice.... Friend of mine goes to PSU state college campus too. Guess when I go to visit her Ill need to disarm as they are sure to try and go gun free soon after this WONDERFUL event...
However it does NOT say weather his apartment was an on campus dorm or an off campus APARTMENT. Hopefully off campus.
I dont know HOW many times Ive read on this and other forums "GUNS and ALCOHOL do NOT mix" and I have always agreed, this just goes to show STUPIDITY at its FINEST.

What goes up, must come down. This moron is lucky he didn't hurt or kill anyone. He should be prohibited from ever owning a gun. At 22 years old you're supposed to be a responsible adult and make decisions accordingly.

I had a 20 year old kid working for me last year who had a similar incident when he fired his Mossberg Cruiser into the air during an phony gang-like confrontation among young punk NY transplants here in the Poconos. That was it. He was gone after that. I don't need to be associated with anyone that stupid. Thank goodness the police took the gun away from him. I lost contact with him after that and don't know if he ever got it back. I hope not.

This moron screwed up on two counts:

    1) He fired a gun behind his apartment while drinking....this makes the rest of us reasonable law-abiding gun-types look like yahoos.

    2) he talked to the police without an attorney present:

"According to court documents, Nolan put his head down and repeatedly said, "I did a stupid thing," as police questioned him about the incident."

NEVER TALK TO THE POLICE if you are being investigated without your attorney!!!!!! This guy is facing serious charges along with the loss of his gun. Let the police investigate. Don't do their jobs for them. Make them prove that you are guilty. Remember they are recording evry word you say.

Then again I wouldn't expect someone stupid enough to drunkenly fire his gun behind an apartment to know better.

I read this article in the Mirror yesterday, considering I used to live on the 700 Block of S Pugh Street I have a pretty good idea of where this incident happened.

I'm surprised they didn't throw in there about the proximity of an elementary school
