Stanley cup appearance at new Pens Arena
About 11:30 AM on this 9th day of July, my boss called me and said the Stanley Cup was being brought into the new arena just after lunch.
Guys were buzzing about this for the next hour.
After a quick hot pocket, a tasty cake and a cup of caff, I headed down to center ice.
I'm no photographer but just happened to have my camera to update the Pens Arena thread and was glad i had it.
What happened was pretty cool.
Here we go.
Stanley cup entering site in black SUV
Pens PR girl waiting to interview me.
Stanley cup stepping out of it's car.
Paprazzi waiting for my reaction
Somewhat disorganized construction worker gang mobbing the cup.
I stood back and couldn't see a damn thing. A sheet metal buddy of mine was standing on a 30' manlift so I climbed up hoping for a better view.
No dice. I noticed the key in the ignition, fired that sukka up and proceeded to "get elevated". I ran up about 10 feet and some friends yelled at me to stop and come back down. They wanted to go up too.
This was the shot from about 10 feet up. Where in the hell is that cup?
We ran up to about 30 feet and saw this. Just more mob.
The professional photographers saw us, realized that would be a good vantage point and screamed for us to come down and take them up.
Since I was the operator, I was trying to get $5 a head for the trip. They all said they would pay later but left before i saw a dime.
When we got back up, the main photographer was barking orders for the crowd to open up. A hole in the crowd started to appear.
He barked some more and if by magic, they listened. Can you imagine grown construction workers listening?
Some of the guys got to hoist the cup. That was too cool.
When we finally got down, the crowd was once again all over the cup.
The photographer took pictures of each group of workers with the cup.
Ironworkers, carpenters, plumbers, sheet metal workers, steamfitters, electricians, bricklayers, cement finishers, testing people, operating engineers, drywall finishers, laborers, escalator constructors and probably a few trades i forgot.
Here are our steamfitters and sheet metal workers.
Since I didn't take a picture of the plumbers, I got a guy to take my pic snuggling with the cup. I should have trimmed my beard .
27hand and Lord Stanley's cup.
These are two guys that are on my crew being interviewed by the Pens PR girl. They saw me and called me over. Between the 3 of us, we got 10 or 15 minutes worth of interviews. Don't know if it'll make any press.
I had these guys working in a 90 foot high shaft installing 500 lb pieces of cast iron pipe tied off with full body harnesses. Near the top, the shaft had no means of support for the workers. We had to hire a scaffold company to build a safe structure to work on.
This is one of the better crews I've had the priviledge to work with over the past 33 years in the business.
Getting back to the cup.
When the Pens won and a parade was announced to happen, I started a rumor that the cup was coming into the new arena at the end of the parade. The rumor spread like wildfire and a lot of guys were anticipating it's arrival.
I felt bad for that microsecond and LMAO when I heard all the guys talking about the cup coming but thought it would be a cool gesture for the Pens organization to make that happen.
It was ultra cool to be part of it when it did.

I've been a Hockey fan (Flyers in case you did know it ) all of my life.

No problem. He is a little douche bag. If he was playing on hardwood he would wreck the floor from all the tears.

May I ask what your opinions on specific players has to do with the cup coming to my jobsite?
If this thread had ANY mention of players skill levels or opinions on shortcomings, your post would be in order.
This thread isn't about the players or any other facet of the game. It's about the Pens organization doing something they really didn't have to do and did anyway for the benefit of the few hundred construction grunts busting their asses to make a deadline.
