Default Hi-Point Pistols (or why I shouldn't read the SOG catalog)

So, I've gotten my C&R license primarily because there are a number of fine C&R eligible firearms at very reasonable prices. And so, I now get the SOG catalog. <sigh> This gun collecting thing is going to be worse than tattoos or building model tanks for warhammer 40k. I'm drooling over far, far too many guns in this thing.

Does anyone have any experience with Hi-Point pistols? These pistols are less expensive than my CZ-52 was! A brand new .45 for less than $200 retail (page 17 if you have September's catalog)? I'll be heading out onto the intarweb n@ looking for reviews, but I thought I'd also ask on here. How well does this brand stand up?

    Thanks,

    Eric

I've shot them, and I will say that they are very heavy guns...empty or not, crudely built, I wouldn't consider it anything I would want to depend on in a dire situation. That said, it was decently accurate and because of the weight, recoil was less than most .45's. To sum it up, you get what you pay for, but I wouldn't buy one if you told me it was $100.

    press trigger = go boom

it might not be the prettiest, the most ergonomic, or the best built pistol, but if thats whats within your budget, then by all means, buy it.

I'd take a high-point over a baseball bat or a knife any day of the week.

I did shoot a 9mm high point carbine, and it was awesome. Crazy accurate too, at 55 feet. Dude said he got it for $100. It'll get the job done.

I think that would be fun to plink with, that is about it. If I had one I would get it in 9mm due to cheaper ammo.

Kelly got the C-9 a few weeks ago. Eats all the ammo we have fed it, fits her hand well, and has been dead reliable.
No, it's not the prettiest thing in the world, but it works for her.
Her only complaint so far, is the safety/slide release. It's small, and had bitten her once already when she released the slide.
BTW, at 10meters, she's getting groupings of just over a quarter size!

BTW, $119 at Hoover's in Rockwood!

The nice thing about Hi-Points is that they have a lifetime guarantee. It doesn't matter what happened, they replace anything that went wrong and send the weapon back with accessories to cover the shipping cost. I just a HP995 (9mm carbine) with a cheapo scope for $115 and I'm gonna send it in just to have it looked over and updated to the newest version. Plus the extra mags they're gonna send back with it won't hurt The moral of the story is buy any used hi-point for dirt cheap (doesn't matter if it works) and send it away to get it refurbished for free.

I have the C-9. It was my first gun... because it was cheap, and had a lifetime warranty. Yeah, it's heavy, yeah, not so "appealing" to the eye, but that thing will shoot all day, any ammo, it actually works better the dirtier it gets.. It's super accurate.. I could go on.. I have shot the carbines too, and they are one of my favorite rifles to shoot.. and also super accurate.. for the money, it's totally worth it to buy.. I like mine alot.. I don't think i'd ever get rid of mine...

Had the compensated 9mm version for a few years, same outcome as others have mentioned. Reliable, shot well, ate everything I fed it, low cost. Some guns are cheap and pices of cheap, jamming crap. The High Points give you some useful value for your dollar. Many that knock 'em never actually owned or shot one.

Hell Fire just got a full size Hi Point in .40 Smith. He will have it at the PGH Shoot if you want to test drive it!
