Re: Obama's infomercial.
yeah, i watched it.
man, i really wish political campaigns in this country focused on substantive issues and proposals rather than emotion. (this, unfortunately, does not apply only to obama.)
he also started off with two completely incorrect assertions:
1. the "financial crisis" is the result of bush's policies over the last 8 years. i can't stand g.w. imho, he was a horrible president. but the idea that he is responsible for the "financial crisis" is just plain wrong. and obama is smart enough to understand that...so, i gotta figure he is just being intellectually dishonest.
2. he said to some guy who did not get as much of a pension from his company as he thought he would (because the company used the pension fund to stay afloat) that the guy "earned" the pension by giving up compensation (salary). that is not how pensions work, though. pensions are not funded from salary deductions...pensions (i.e. defined-benefit plans) are funded entirely by the company. defined-contribution plans, on the other hand, are funded through payroll deductions, but that money belongs to the employee and cannot be used by the company for general operating expenses.
either obama doesn't understand what he is talking about regarding even the basics of retirement plans (a scary thought, frankly) or, more likely imho, he is again being intellectually dishonest.
i'm not sure how intellectual dishonesty represents the "change" he likes to talk about so much.
ETA: oh, and he highlighted his statement about "the promise of america is that we are our brother's keepers". bzzz. wrong. the promise of america is that you can make your own way and that you can reap the rewards (or lack thereof) for your own efforts (or lack thereof). no brother's keeper. you are your own keeper. you reap what you sow. that is the promise of america and that is the spirit of rugged individualism that made this country great. this brother's keeper crap is making us soft and weak and bloated and bringing us down.Last edited by LittleRedToyota; October 29th, 2008 at 08:51 PM.

Re: Obama's infomercial.
Mnahh! I've seen enough of him already. I still think he'd make a better
James Bond than he would a President of anything.
PlinkerMy dog "Ruger" is worried about the economy because Alpo is up to $3.00 a can. That's almost $21.00 in dog money.
Pray for our troops....and a little extra for our snipers.

Re: Obama's infomercial.
I think he's obfuscating the facts on purpose. Intellectually dishonest, yes. After all he is a lawyer. A Harvard educated lawyer. He knows exactly what he's saying and how he's presenting it. The "sheeple" won't figure it out until it's too late.

I didn't watch it, because I didn't want to add to his ratings and inflate his ego...
