Terrifying thought
He hasnt even taken office yet and there are whack jobs out there begging for the abolishment of the 22nd Amendment. They want to have the chance to elect Obama to a THIRD TERM!!! Like I said he hasnt even taken office for the first one. What do you guys think? Should be abolish the 22nd Amendment and let anyone stay in office that long?

Re: Terrifying though
our elected officials are not put in place to consolidate power and strip away the Rights of the Citizenry... yet there are groups out there who would push for this... something that is a violation of everything our Founders and our Forefathers stood against.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but believe me, it's on the damned list.

I picked the wrong one.
I am in favor of term limits for Congress.

Re: Terrifying though
I don't like term limits. What if you get a really good person then they have to go and most likely replaced with some tool. I say our Vote is the term limit but we need to actually stand up to these politicians and kick them out when they mess up. None of this "it was an honest mistake" crap. Don't pay taxes you are out?

Re: Terrifying though
In a perfect world, there'd be no term limits. People would be able to elect someone as many times as they want, and that is more democratic than what we have now. However, as you can see today, most of the voters are idiots and don't know who/what they're voting for. Money buys votes these days, and that's not true democracy.
In congress, where there are no term limits, the same, old, lazy, horrible congressmen and senators get reelected just because people know them, and even when their approval rating is something like 9%, they still don't get voted out in large numbers. That tells me that the voters just don't know enough to elect the "right" people...or just don't care to research it.
Bottom line: I support the abolition of term limits.
P.S. I wonder how these weenies would've felt about no term limits four years ago?

Politicians are like diapers and should be changed often, for the same reason.

Re: Terrifying though
I support term limits.
I accept the good (Bush being shown the door) with the bad (Mayor Giuliani getting the boot automatically)
In the end it does prevent one person/party from becoming the only game in town.

Re: Terrifying though
Term limits would only serve to keep politicians from making a career of service. They won't prevent one, or two, parties dominating the selection, and they don't automatically guarantee an improvement in the quality of service, since the nominees will still be selected by someone other than the electorate, who isn't qualified to make the selection, anyway.
I like Heinlein's idea, but I'd extend it to politicians, as well: only those who've served can vote, and only those who've served can run. It would disenfranchise me, but that's a risk I'm willing to take.
In the meantime, term limits are about as good as we can do. Don't let anyone serve more than two terms for any office, at any level. While we're at it, let's put Article II back into effect, and get some balance in the executive branch.Kevin Singleton, Potawatomi - {ZRT - Sector 4}
