Default Giving credit where it's due: thank you, Jill Porter

We rant and rail about the excesses of the press when it comes to unfair characterizations of firearms owners and the constant assumption that everything associated with firearms is inherently evil.

And yet, when someone acknowledges getting it wrong. and then does a stand-up thing in admitting it, do we do enough to let them know that it's appreciated?

Jill Porter, thank you. We may not always see eye to eye on the issues, but this instance was a class act on your part.

+1. I am pleasantly surprised by the article and how forthright she was about things. Jill Porter deserves credit for doing the right thing in a public forum. We should consider finding some more direct way to thank her, even if it's just some emails from us individually.

Good on her. Perhaps she can investigate why "most" of the old man's guns have been returned, rather than all of them.

That's a good idea. Since she's received a note with a link to this thread, perhaps she'll undertake your suggestion.

Good to hear that a reporter will make a public apology...

E-mail sent to Ms. Porter. Takes alot of character to publically admit a mistake like this.

A long article but here's a quote about Sylvester Johnson: It’s difficult to get a sense of just how big Philadelphia’s Muslim population is. Estimates range from less than 100,000 to twice that many. Its importance is clear, though; Sylvester Johnson, for instance, served as America’s first Muslim metropolitan police chief. Along with many other adherents in Philadelphia, he found Islam — or some form of it, at least — decades ago, when the Nation of Islam came to town."

And this has what to do with the price of tea in China, Junior?

Did you read the article pop? If you think having a police chief with his background is not important, then I guess I've made an error. The nature of that error is my business.

We were discussing the honesty of the writer, not the lack of professionalism that resulted in a sham of a case, and even if we were, what difference would Islam have played in its outcome?
