If ya wanted to buy a small cannon...
Serious question...someone asked me recently where is the best place to get a legal cannon..for salutes, 4th of July, etc etc. I assume not a big re-enactor-sized antique artillery field piece, but a small one. I had been thinking of getting one myself anyways. Does anybody know? Anybody have one, etc. Do you have to use a carbide cannon, or can you get a black powder cannon, etc?? Help!

Re: If ya wanted to buy a small cannon...
My dad has a cannon. It does not launch a projectile. We use black powder and wadding. That thing roars and spits flames 3ft out of the tube. I have been trying to convince him to get the bore slightly enlarged so we can shoot golfballs out of it but he won't give in.
I don't know where he got it though. It looks like someone made it in their garage. When you are called a racist, it just means you won an argument with an Obama supporter.

I have an original Winchester Signal Cannon.
It is one very loud mother.
It uses 10 gauge black powder blanks.

Re: If ya wanted to buy a small cannon...
I've used http://www.cannon-mania.com to purchase a replica USS Constitution cannon. It's well built, all iron with a wooden carraige. I think the bore is .69" and uses black powder.
They're perfectly legal to own as they are smoothbore. We've shot it off on several holidays (make sure it's pointed in the right direction and invite the neighbors out to watch!)
They've got all sorts of pre built cannons and also kits. Take a look at their site and have fun!

I used to have a few carbide cannons...pretty safe, they use Bangsite Carbide and water to make acetylene gas, then use a spark to fire of the report.
