Default Army brings Carl Gustav recoiless rifles out of bunkers...

Only been 11+ years or so in Asscrackfullofsand, but Army recognizes value of the 84mm "Carl Gustav" ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_G...coilless_rifle ) as a sledgehammer in the hands of the troops encountering walled buildings and cave entrances -

    http://www.popularmechanics.com/mili...3-carl-gustav/

Latest word is that they are now launching a $10Mill study on the effects of possibly using a longer range infantry rifle in 30.06 caliber to be able to reach out and touch Taliban equipped with .303 and 7.62x54R rifles...

They figure that the new rifle with the longer range and harder hitting power of 30.06 will not even require a hi-cap mag, and that an 8rd en-bloc would probably suffice..
All of my guns are lubed with BACON GREASE.

My Garand is 9 months younger than me and would still kick ass in the right hands.

I thought that they already had a round called the .308 WiN (7.62X51 NATO) that pretty much matches the .30-06 in ballistics, and hey look at this they have a rifle that can shoot it, called the M-14 that uses a standard capacity 20 round magazine, thats been around for like 70 years.... And it has Select fire too!! shit man, you gotta be a stupid assed liberal.... to..not....jump on... aww fuck.

They've been using them about the last 10 years, of course. Although there are newer 7.62x51 weapons available.

I don't have the patience to take that article apart in detail.

Popular Mechanics is a bit behind in their "breaking news" topics. The "Charlie G" has been in regular use in Afghanistan since 2011. It became a Program of Record in 2014, meaning it went into regular issue. It never left US Army use but fielding was limited to Special Forces.

Where did you read the Army is studying the 30-06? This is the first I have seen any such reference. I'm not saying it isn't possible but I'd like to see the source. 30-06 doesn't have a sufficient advantage over .308 to make it worth a $10M study. Besides that, the .300 Win Mag and .338 Lapua have already surpassed any capability 30-06 offers and both of those calibers are in the current US mil inventory.

What MT1 said, nfafan -- Were you being sarcastic about the $10 Million study regarding a 30-06 weapon? (That's OK!) If not, please provide a link to your source so that we can tear that one apart, too.
