Default cnn article on German gun ownership

    http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/03/world/...hip/index.html

For those who don't want to bother openning the link: this is my take on the article. Once again CNN swings and misses if this this supposed to be a pro gun piece.

One interesting fact: Germany is #4 in the world for private gun ownership. The article attempted to portray gun owners there as a very responsible bunch, and that they keep a very low public profile due to Germany's history in WW 2.

Where the article misses (or should I say omisses?). The author of the piece was happy to talk about how controlled firearms ownership is in Germany and was backing the idea of how few gun crimes Germany has as a result. No mention of some German laws that go completely against US law.
-You have to belong to a club to get a gun license in Germany (due to the recent worries over terrorism the government ordered clubs to close memberships).
-The costs of owning a gun in Germany. To get a simple hunting license is a lengthy process involving many tests and fees that ultimately amounts to around $10K in costs. (Obviously hunting is intended to remain a kudo of the weathy few.)
-There is no right to self defense, meaning no legal carry for civilians (this may not be entirely true since I've talked to people who've carried there and one even showed me his old carry permit).

Anybody else read this pile of misinformation?

Didn't have to read it..... It was CNN, and nothing short of misrepresentation through not reporting facts that challenge their agenda.

The girl with the 1911 is oddly attractive, the cat looks scared and the flintlock has some nice grain.

I like to read what the other side is printing and publishing.

What happened to more guns = more violence?

Or does Germany not count because they are special?

Yes "nice gun" and "that person is crazy why would you photograph them?" Are two different spectrums.
One sounds reasonable and the other sounds like an unreasonable fear.

A recent thread up in the firearms section from a guy in Germany gives some insight into ownership there:

It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.

Wow, just skimmed that thread again. They've made it really almost impossible to own guns in Germany unless you already belong to a gun club, or have a hunting license.

I wonder how the French Resistance would feel about gun control?

And even then your "ownership" is a joke.

I work in Germany a lot (I'm there right now) and have lots of German colleagues. Whenever they come to Pittsburgh, half of them want me to take them to my club to shoot.... Many of the guys actually were in the military as there was a draft until recently (albeit with a civil service option) and they shoot pretty well.
