How many christians here?
I have a bit of a dilemma. i want to get a pistol for home defense and range use. My wife is 100000000% against it. She claims that she does not think it is biblical to shoot and possibly kill someone who is trying to hurt you. We were both raised in Christian homes and her dad is a Methodist pastor. I obviously don't feel the same way she does.
I have told her that the gun will never come out of the safe while she is in the house (unless i'm leaving to go to the range) yet she is still totally against it because she keep comming back to the point that i would kill someone that breaks into the house. My response is always I will not go out of the bedroom and activly pursue the person, but if they try to bust down the [locked] bedroom door that they will be shot at.
Could any of you guys point to a website or book that could help me get my point across that it is okay to defend yourself if need be? I hope someone out there can help me out cuz it's just getting ridiculous in the house because we keep butting heads over this issue.
sorry if this sounds jumbled but i gathered my thoughts the best i could after the argument. any other input would also be appreciated.

Nehemiah 4:17-18.
For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded.
Matthew 26:52-54 –
Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
Samuel 25:13
And David said unto his men, Gird ye on every man his sword. And they girded on every man his sword; and David also girded on his sword: and there went up after David about four hundred men; and two hundred abode by the stuff.
Exodus 22:2-3
If the thief is found breaking in, and he is struck so that he dies, there shall be no guilt for his bloodshed. If the sun has risen on him, there shall be guilt for his bloodshed. He should make full restitution; if he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
Luke 22:36
Whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.
Matt 5:39b-41
Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you
on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if
someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him
have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go
one mile, go with him two miles.
Matt 26:52b
All who draw the sword will die by the sword.
2 Cor 10:3-4
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war
as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not
the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have
divine power...
Eph 6:12-17
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but
against principalities, against powers, against the
rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual
hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore
take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able
to withstand in the evil day, and having done all,
to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist
with truth, having put on the breastplate of
righteousness, and having shod your feet with the
preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking
the shield of faith with which you will be able to
quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take
the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God...
Eccl 9:18
Wisdom is better than weapons of war...
Eccl 7:19
Wisdom makes one wise man more powerful
than ten rulers in a city.
Zeph 2:3
Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth...
seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be
ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD's anger.
Matt 5:5
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
1 Cor 11:1b
Imitate Christ.
Isa 53:7
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open
his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he
did not open his mouth.
Rom 8:36b
For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.
Mark 15:7b, 15
Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who
had committed murder in the uprising... Pilate released
Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him
over to be crucified.
3 Jn 1:11
Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good...
1 Jn 3:15b
You know that no murderer has eternal life in him.

Re: How many christians here?
The commandment is thou shall not Murder. In the Bible they used knifes and swords not guns to kill people who were attacking them.
Tell her to re-read the Bible she's missing it even Jesus take your swords with you when you go out among men it wasn't to love them.

Luke 22 (New International Version)
36He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. 37It is written: 'And he was numbered with the transgressors'[b]; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment."
38The disciples said, "See, Lord, here are two swords."
"That is enough," he replied.
Even Christ wanted his disciples to able to defend themselves!! My father used to be a preacher and he and I debated this for a few days. We came to the realization that, yes there is a commandment that states "thou shall not kill." But in the translation it turns out there are two meanings for the Hebrew word for kill. On is kill and the other is murder. I lean toward the meaning of murder. To me murder means to kill and innocent person. That being said, the minute you break into my house you lose your innocence. I am there by justified in the eyes of the law and the lord to send you to him to explain how you got there.
When injustice becomes law, rebellion becomes duty!

Re: How many christians here?
Go out and get the gun. If your wife hates it then fine, you can deal with the flak but at least you can protect your most prised posessions.......your family.
Don't allow someone to murder your family because it wouldn't be "biblical" to defend youself.
Love thy neighbor......until he's raping your wife
