Default Help me convince wife to spend $1k on a .38

Well, I'm old fashioned, and have a real love for .38 Special revolvers.

Instead of a Government Model, or an XD9 Tactical like hers, I've decided I'm going to get a S&W Model 67. 38s are just too cheap to load for, too accurate, and too much fun for me to shoot to pass on. They are adequately powerful for defensive use. Not to mention, I carried a Model 15 for years, and don't even have to think about aiming them. I also like the ability to carry snake shot in the woods with utter confidence in the gun's reliability.

But, the version I really want is this one:

My wife loves guns, and I have to drag her away from gun counters as often as she has to drag me away. But, she seems to think $1k is a little pricey. Help me convince her this gun would be nice enough to justify the cost.

Maybe if you traded in a couple others that you don't shoot much and put the money towards it..?

Bite your tongue!! We aren't selling anymore guns. We are rebuilding our collection.

We've save for a while, we can spend up to $1K. The goal being to buy a really first class pistol. Which I happen to think the Model 67 is, but the Carry Comp is better

Frankly, I'm really considering the M67 for my carry gun, and a couple of different .22 semi-autos for Basic Pistol classes. But if I can talk her into a grand for a .38, I could change my mind, if the revolver is actually as nice as I would expect a Performance Center gun to be.

    Buy her something first.

I have bought her an XD-9 Tactical, a Taurus Model 970 .22, and a used Ruger Security Six. It's my turn

The issue isn't really about me spending a grand. That's been decided. What she and, honestly I, is wondering is if a S&W Performance center gun is really worth the very hefty price tag.

Well, you can tell her you need to buy this gun NOW before Hilary or Obama get elected and put a 'weapons' ban into effect,...Obama has already stated he is in favor of a small arms ban.
Seriously, just in case, I myself am trying to purchase any and all guns/ammo I might want before November comes.

Dealer on those guns is $801.47 so you might find a dealer willing to sell at around $850.

Those new S&W Night Guard .38's are really nice, but they only have a 2 1/2" barrel which might not be long enough for you.

Every damn Colt handgun I ever bought was for top dollar....but those are the guns that made me the happiest. I buy what I want and worry about if it's a good enough gun later....most of the time it is!

how about you save a little money on the side and tell her you find one lnib for dirt cheap? i've used that one a few times, and now i'm on the "if she don't ask don't tell" mentality.
Go head, skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

I don't know, that's what I'm trying to figure out. I wouldn't mind a nice "custom" gun, but I don't know if that's what this is, and if it's really worth the extra coin. I like the three inch barrel, and some of the other goodies they list, I'm wondering if the trigger and accuracy are noticeably better than stock.

Anyone ever shoot one of these, or know of a shop in SE PA that might have one?
