    Default girl scouts and guns

I heard as of a few years ago, the girl scouts 12 and older are allowed to have firearms instruction simmilar to the boy scouts. I even saw the western pa girl scouts sponsor an nra rifle program.

Makes me want to set up a gun club and have a rifle shooting merit badge program coed (girl scouts can make their own badge)... and have a range competition to see what scouts get the high score.
my goal: to get every good person in the philly region responsibly armed.

A very worthwhile goal indeed. Perhaps consult 4H as well to see if they have tips specifically on teaching younger ladies to shoot, as perhaps there's any particular details of teaching that type of person that might not be obvious. Different types of people learn differently.

My boy is into archery and takes lessons at the local shop every Saturday. When we first started 3 years ago I was surprised to see how many girls were there. One class is leaving when we get there and another coming as we leave and I'd say it's an even split between boys and girls in those three classes.

What really gets me is that on average the girls are better shots, lol. I don't really get to see the older girls shoot because their class is later in the day but the younger girls, 5-12 years old, can lay them in there. For such a small shop this place is no joke and turns out some shooters. They go to the State shoot in Harrisburg every year and always bring home trophies. Makes me happy to see so many young kids into the shooting sports.

I don't know for sure why girls and women are often better shooters than boys and men, but my guess is its because men are more impatient and just want to pull the trigger as soon as we get a chance. If its pointed in a safe direction, then what are we waiting for?!

I think you're close. I've found that it's more about attitude. Girls (and women) are generally more "teachable" at the range. The boys (and men) show up thinking that they "know how do to this" and aren't as open to setting aside what they've "learned" from movies and video games and learning the right way.

Can I be in charge of recruiting girl scout moms?

I learned a *very* long time ago that "You shoot like a woman" was a compliment, and am never offended by it. If Mrs.K starts shooting IDPA... well, let's just say I'm glad we'll be in different divisions.

I knew this was coming, even before finishing reading the OP. I just didn't expect it to be so soon (5 posts) before someone says something about picking up women.....

Sure, why not? In the name of promoting the shooting sports and 2A. I'll even volunteer to be your wingman.

Yep, men have preconceived notions that they know how, and dont take instruction as well as women.

Same thing as the instructions that come with putting something together.

I know as a man I don't need no stinking directions. My wife on the other hand reads them.

You can guess which one of us winds up having to fix more errors by the time we're done. Of course I'm done first and that's what really counts.
