An Ammo Shortage Article
Just as I've been saying - the buyers have been responsible for the shortages and higher prices.

If you own a gun -- and surveys say that somewhere between 24% and 45% of you do -- it will come as no surprise when I say that the price of ammunition is on the rise.
How much ammo costs have risen is hard to say precisely, because prices vary from place to place, brand to brand, and caliber to caliber. But by way of illustration, the price of Brown Bear 7.62x39mm rifle rounds (standard for an AK-47) on the popular guns 'n' ammo website AIM Surplus has risen from about $85 for a box of 500 rounds in 2007 to $120 near the end of 2013 to "sold out" today. Cheap .22 long-rifle caliber rifle rounds and 9mm pistol ammunition are both said to have more than tripled in price over the past five years, while .40 Smith & Wesson rounds have doubled and .45 ACP costs nearly twice what it did five years ago.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515, SteveWag

Re: An Ammo Shortage Article
nope, SH is responsible for all this, it will never fully recover....if SH never happened neither would all this mess...now have we contribued to the cause of course....
some people are probably now soley in the market of flipping ammo (something ive yet to see every really be profitable until SH), some of them ammo flippers may or may not even be gun owners, thats how profitble it has become since SH

Re: An Ammo Shortage Article
Even though SH is what drove folks to go buy up everything, SH isn't the entity that did, and is still doing, all of the buying.
It's been well over a year, there is no hope of a federal or PA law passing - tell me why people are still buying up everything, causing the supply/demand prices and unavailability of good?
You don't create a surplus or make prices lower by continuously buying up the goods. Buying up all the goods and complaining about prices and availability is like shooting all the bison and wondering why there aren't any buffs to shoot.Last edited by knight0334; February 17th, 2014 at 11:57 PM.

Re: An Ammo Shortage Article
Why, because some people got rich, and some people got kicked in the nuts when they realized nothing is "forever" and the thought of being able to grab .22lr at a few thousand at a time before a range sesh is long gone and people "fear" that...
hence why this will never fully recover, nor why would the vendors lower their prices knowing what people did pay and are still paying...even if people stop buying ammo at an alarming rate (which i dont think will ever really happen again)...vendors are not just going to drop their prices unless there is a HUGE drop off in buying (once again not going to happen)...
Why is simple.....things getting better anytime soon dont see it happening, yes its due to "us" but "lets be clear" who put the panic on in the first place...there never should of been a panic, 27 kids being shot up in their school or not...

Re: An Ammo Shortage Article
Prices have come down on the black rifles and the pmag. I agree, ammo could come back if we the people backed off a bit. Just my thoughts

Re: An Ammo Shortage Article
This very same thing happened in 1989, 1993/1994, and 1998 but you might be too young to remember this events. Everyone bought everything, prices went up. After people stopped buying everything and a surplus was allowed to build back up prices came back down.
Proof of this even working today is that after Sandy Hook AR's and AK's skyrocketed to the point that the cheapest AR was $1000 and part prices went up in same respects. But today you can go buy an AR for $600-$700 again. Why, because demand for such dropped, supply improved.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515, SteveWag

Re: An Ammo Shortage Article
After reading the article on the online NRA magazine I have to only slightly agree with this article. In the zine the reporter interviewed many ammo industry execs and found that they did not increase greatly the amount of ammo being produced because they did not want to incur costs unnecessarily. Keep in mind that making ammo is a competitive business and if one manufacture buys more supplies and hires more ppl that is added cost to the company which means lower profit as in all businesses. By not hiring more workers, buying more machinery, and buying more supplies to make more bullets they were betting that the increase in demand was just a bubble and would not last long. Ammo manufactures did not see coming the rapid increase in gun buys or the massive increase in demand for ammo. Looking back on it it was a bad decision not to increase the workforce and buy machinery but that is all hindsight.
