HELP!!! I've Been Assigned to Fort Meade!!!

Good gracious me oh my, I got orders today assigning me to Fort Meade Maryland. Home of not so friendly Gun ownership.

Anyone commute from York Co. to that area?

Specific gun laws in Maryland?

I know they don't have Reciprocity with anyone and getting a License to Carry Concealed is a BEOTCH but anyone with good solid info willing to share would be greatly appreciated.

My father did it for over 35 years (stewartstown to meade) and I drive to the area daily as well. Its a crappy drive if you have normal hours.

Forget about carrying in MD.
As far as commuting from York County, it wouldn't be too too bad. Going down 83 and around the Baltimore Beltway (MD 695) isn't bad as long as it isn't the rush hour...however, the drive north on Rt 301 from Virginia would be about the same. So, look to northern VA or south central PA.

I wouldn't mind buying a place but want to stay be Southern York Co. Have to get my feet wet first and rent is what I'm thinking. See how the commute is from Stewartstown, New Freedom to work.

I would assume my work start time would be normal Army time, 0600 for PT etc...

My orders have me being Cadre for the WTU, Blue to Green Program. Those fellow service members coming to the Army from the AF, Navy, CG, Marine's etc...and helping them transition to the Army in the 3 or 4 week program we have developed. I really have no idea about the area other than its in one of the places I would never/ever live. I'm just blown away ole grunt sarge got a job like this not to mention in such a non friendly gun state...being trying for an assignment out west for ummmmmmm, 4 years now...LOL Anyway, such is life.

I'll have to just live with the fact I can't carry from home to work and back but at least living in PA again, I'll be home!

Looking at the map it seems like you're better off going from Stewartstown and down 83.

I used to drive from Baltimore up the beltway and 795 to MD 30/PA 94 to Hanover every weekend and it was murder with traffic, especially on Friday night. I was considering a job back down there and was going to move to Hanover and commute, but I'm glad I came out here where I'm at now. No more Maryland for me!

When I was down there I kept my PA driver's license, vehicle registration and LCTF. I was lucky I never got caught because I heard fines are pretty steep for not transferring everything over.

I was down there for four years. Towards the end of my time there I would CC occasionally if I was heading straight up to PA. I would strongly caution anyone in that situation about CCing in MD though. I was young and stupid then and the penalties are just not worth it.

Hopefully everything will work itself out for the best.

You might want to come to Littlestown in Adams County. You have a couple options for travel. You could go all the way to the Baltimore Beltway on Route 97 and MD Route 140 to I-795, or do a back door run coming down Route 97, MD Route 26 and MD Route 32. Housing is pretty reasonable and there is no car emission inspection in Adams County.

Former, was, has been, not currently, used to be, X, etc...oh, and in Georgia, not PA!!!
