Default What kind of rifle with what game?

Figured that this can be a very interesting thread. What kind of rifle do you use for what type of bigger game and what terrain?

    Whitetail Deer (SW PA):
Fields - Weatherby Vanguard .270 with a 3x9 Leupold Scope
    Woods - Remmington 760 .308 with a 3x9 Simmons Scope

btw ... I use 150 gr in both.

I have not hunted in nearly 20 years.

But, when i first started hunting at 12, I used

    White tail deer (Lycoming Co)
Rem 22-250 with 52g ammo. Used a weaver fixed 4x scope. Where we hunted, most shots were well under 100yds.

    Small game
My dads old 16g bolt action shot gun.

I recently bought a rem 700 in 30-06 and a Marlin lever in 30-30. I am trying to find a spot to hunt next year with my son. And at some point i'd love to be able to take my dad, son, self on a hunting trip to Texas.

I only hunt deer now and since I was 12 (I'm 40 now) I have used a short little Rem.model 600 in 35 rem. For the area I hunt it has done everything I have ever ask of it.

Deer: Rem 870 12ga smoothbore w/ rifled slugs or Western Field 16ga smoothbore w/ rifled slugs (usually in MD - shotgun only where i am) or if in PA only Rem 760 Gamemaster in .244(6mm)

Small game: Either of the above shotties usually with 6 shot. Need to get my old Remington .22 pump youth size that was my grandfather's to a smith someday to be fixed before i have kids so I can pass it down... Wouldn't mind trying it out myself on some tree rats...

Deer - Regular deer season, my Marlin 336 .30/30 with fixed 4X scope, or one of my milsurps. Fields or woods still use the same.

Deer - Muzzleloader seasons, my Lyman Great plains flintlock in .54 caliber, shooting patched roundballs.

Small game - My Model 500 Mossberg pump, or my Stoeger O/U, both in 12 gauge.

Small game-Mossberg pump in 12 ga or Fox double in 16.

    Groundhogs- 22 LR, 223, 270, 7mm-8.

Deer-270, 7mm-08, 358 Win. The 358 has usually been the "push the bush" gun but it's a Savage 99 and they're getting pricey, I really don't want to beat mine up any more. The other 2 are go anywhere bolt actions.

Bear-358 unless the weather is crappy, then 7mm-08 since it's SS/syn

The 270 and 358 would probably get the nod should I ever go elk hunting.

    I use 4X, 6X, and 3-9 scopes.
