    Default My Garand - UPDATE! (cmp strikes again)

    Just got my second Garand last week form CMP. This time it's a HRA service grade. I cleaned it up real nice, but haven't shot it yet. New one is on the top, first one is on the bottom, shown with it's brand new CMP stock. I need a Winchester and a tractor gun now...

    Just picked this up yesterday at the CMP north store:

    Love them Garands. Can't wait to hear how it shoots!

    I'm lucky, or rather my wife and bank account are lucky I don't live closer to the CMP store

    Kypt,

    That is such a beautiful story. (I love happy endings!)
    One day you'll be telling it to your grandchildren.

    That's what I'm saving for right now. I'm happy for you!

    Looks great! Nice piece of history. SA Field Grade? Do you know the year it was built? If not, PM me the serial number and I can look it up for you. You should also note the serial numbers on the various parts. Here is a sample from one of my SA

    Barrel = SA D6535448 10 53 MD36
    Op Rod = 6535382 SA
    Bolt = 6528287 SA DS2
    Trigger Group = 6528290 HRA N
    Safety = HRA

    I too got a case of the Greek ammo and also a case of the LC. Yeah, my UPS guy hates me.

    Looks like an excellent danish example! I bought 2 greeks when I was out there in Jan, one feild grade and one rack grade. Both cleaned up fantastic, got 2 cases of the greek HXP from 72. It shoots well but is dirty. Hope you enjoy that puppy!

    Yeah, It's a catch 22.

    The longer it takes to save up the cash, the more the prices go up. (and quantities go down)

    After purchasing my SKS and a case of ammo with money I "didn't have," I'd be a VERY single man if I even suggested another gun purchase right now!

    Yeah, that's the problem. However next year when you do have the money the opportunity will be gone leaving you the option of paying $800+ at a gun show for the very same rifle. Think of it as a investment. Or, a museum piece of history.

    BTW, CMP takes credit cards and remember, its always easier to apologize later than ask permission now

    Question Re: My Garand

    I would love to get myself a Garand. I know the new Springfield versions run around $1200 (last I checked). How much do the old service models go for? I'd really like to get myself one of the old service models before they all disappear.
