Default Police charge teen with killing great-grandfather

Police have charged a 16-year-old Lake Township boy with killing his great-grandfather in what is to believed to be a premeditated homicide.

Cody Lee, of 443 Meeker Outlet Road, was taken into custody around 2 a.m. and charged in connection with the murder that occurred around 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

Investigators say one of Lee's acquaintances witnessed him struggling with his 80-year-old great-grandfather, Herbert Lee, moments before a shot was fired.

A classmate at Lake-Lehman High School said Lee had discussed his murder plot earlier in the day.

Cody Lee showed the student a notebook that included a floor plan of the house that detailed his plans:

    “Finding grandpa's guns”

    “Kill grandpa”

    “Find money”

    “Find cloths”

“Wait for dad to get home”

    “Kill dad”

    “Call Josh”

    “Leave with Josh”

A person identified as "Josh" was the person who witnessed the struggle. Arrest papers say he fled when he saw a relative chasing after Cody Lee after Herbert Lee's body was discovered. "Josh" was later taken into custody in Harveys Lake armed with an air rifle.

"Why are you worried about me. Cody is the one who did it. It wasn't an air rifle, it was a real gun," he told police.

Cody Lee is jailed in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.

In the wake of the incident, all Lake-Lehman School District schools are closed today. The schools will be open tomorrow, Solicitor John Audi said.

Audi said school was canceled last night because the incident happened early in the evening and the suspect wasn't apprehended until 2 a.m.

"They closed to make sure the school was safe because we didnt know if anything had transpired during the day, so we closed for the safety of the students," Audi said.

The school was searched today, and no weapons were found. Audi said no students had told district officials about the notebook, so school officials didn't know anything about Lee's notebook until the criminal complaint was released.

Counseling will be available tomorrow at the school. Counselors were briefed on the situation today at the school.

Wow. I wonder why the kid that he showed the notebook too didn't say anything earlier? Maybe he didn't think the kid was serious....

    +1 to that

One of my favorite things to say when things get messed up is "where are we going, and why are we in this handbasket?"

Most kids today think it's the cool thing to do. They have no morals, and they treat people like assholes.

Too bad you can't give them the beating they deserve.
