will a Can for a .223 work on a .22LR?

i decided to pick up a can next month, or start the papers anyway, so i was wondering if i were to get one for my AR's would i also be able to use it on my .22LR?

Yes you can use a .223 for 22lr

however

It will be very heavy and large compared to a 22rf can
It will not be as quiet as a dedicated 22rf can
It will eventually fill up with lead when used with 22rf

It's better to just get a dedicated 22rf can

So the can would need to be sized for the higher pressure can?

Yes; you can NOT do the reverse (223 through a 22rf can.)

If anyone made a 357 can you would be able shoot 38sp through it. As it is no one makes a 357 can, however the 9mm Trident is rated up to 357 and has sucessfully been used on a 357 Handi rifle.

Most manufacturers will rate what their cans will handle.

The 22rf SWR Spectre is rated for 22rf, 22hmr, 17hmr & 5.7.

Suppressed 223 isnt all that quiet, 9mm is.

Though I usually suggest 22rf for a first can, since it's the best in terms of suppression, cost and overall wow factor.

Agreed 100%.

It might be better to start out with .223 though. That way you wont be so impressed and might not spend as much money on other cans .

.22 is the best then 9mm then .223 in terms of suppression. I have cans for all those and .22 is by far the quietest. I have a dedicated AR .22 with a 5.5" barrel and a tac 65. That thing sounds like a pellet gun. I frequently get asked if i'm shooting an airsoft.

i have shot all of them, and agree that .22 is the most quiet, 9mm CAN be VERY close...

i know .223 you get the sound barrier deal a lot more and the action of an AR is MUCH louder than the action of a 10/22 or little 22 pistol...

BUT, i would LOVE to have a can for my M9... so yeah... lol
