    Default plastic frames and acetone...?

can i clean my XD or Glock with acetone? i know some plastics are not friends of acetone, but can XD's and glocks be cleaned with acetone to remove "oil stains" from CLP and other lubes?

While it may be too late, my advice is to use a product like Hornady's One Shot Dry Lube, rather than CLP to clean and lube a polymer pistol.

If you already stained the plastic I don't think the acetone will hurt, though I don't know it'll help either. To make an entirely off the wall suggestion, have you thought about using a product like bumper black? Bondo makes something called "back to black" for bumpers and bedliners.

I had to get paint off the plastic trim on a car once after a paint can fell off a truck and exploded under the car in front of me. I used acetone to get rid of the paint, as that was suggested by the auto detailing place (who wouldn't touch the job). The acetone "bleached" the black plastic trim slightly. I used Bondo brand "back to black" and it did the trick. Looked like new and lasted about two years of snow and sun before it needed another coat.

I've used lighter fluid to clean my polymer frames......and brake fluid to strip the paint off them.

not sure about the frame of a gun, but acetone will beach certain plastics and melt others.
maybe you could try something not as harsh like methanol?

I would try as one poster suggested, Lighter fluid or Barbecue fluid, Kerosene, Alcohol if you swab it on and remove it. any aliphatic petroleum solvent or Orange Cleaner. No Acetone, it may soften and damage the frame.

Shooters choice make a spray just for polymer pistols. I have used it on my M&P40 with no problems at all. I only use it on the frame as the barrel and all the metal parts get the regular cleaning with solvent and oil.
