Looks like a great idea for homes with no children. I like it, not so much because it puts the gun within reach, but because it puts the gun in a place that is out-of-the-way and hidden. The problem with long-guns for HD is where to put them. This solves that problem.

Now they need to make a model with deeper hooks to accommodate AR's and AK's.

I'd say that's probably not a good idea and here is why:

Recently I saw some TV show where they got an ex-con burglar to rob this families home to show how vulnerable most homes are. The burglar struck when the homeowners had a family gathering for dinner or something. The homeowners knew there was going to be an attempt, but didn't know how or when (duh). Since there were lots of people in the house at the time, the homeowners decided to turn the alarm off. The burglar used the homeowners ladder to climb into an unlocked second story window. He only searched a few places in the master bedroom. Between the mattress was one of the places.
