Default HKS Speedloader for Taurus 85

I have a Taurus 85, picked up an HKS model 36 speed loader for it that had my model listed on the packaging. It doesnt fit the gun, as the chamber pattern is just a bit wider than the pattern on the speedloader. The rounds slide in, but get cocked and jam inside the speedloader.

For those with 85s, which model HKS works in your guns? Did I just get a bad loader, or do I have the wrong model?

edit: I thought to double check their site, and it has the model 36-A labeled as correct for the Taurus, so i know it should fit.

double edit: Just checked two other ammo types, in case that was the issue (maybe wider rim), and both WWB lrn and Remington FMJs have the exact same issue.

    help.

Just checked my listings and it looks like the 36-A is the right one.

Although I don't own one, so I can't tell you from experience. However, I do have a Taurus 85 SS UltraLite that I'm pretty fond of Maybe I'll check out one of these speed loaders sometime soon and see how it works for me.

Exactly my gun. Im wondering if maybe there is a difference in the cylinders for the UltraLites vs. the standard steel 85s? It seems to be about .020-.030" difference to my eye.

I have a 85 Ultralite and use a model 36 (actually a few of them) with no problems speed loading.
Guns only have two enemies: rust and politicians.

The Taurus website links to the same parts list (and same part number for the Cylinder on both - 31.15124-8) for the 85SS2 and the 85SS2UL.

    85SS2UL

    85SS2

Maybe try another loader, I guess...I can't imagine that you got a bad one though unless it's a knock-off and not a true HKS. *shrug*

Knowing Taurus, they just punched 5 holes in the cylinder in any location they felt like on that day.

Nope, got it at Cabelas, in HKS packaging, stamped and all. Thanks for checking those part numbers though, removes one possibility.

I think Ill mail it back to HKS and have them send me a new one.

    That actually pretty funny.

I have a 85 ultralight and a few 36-A speedloaders. They load both my Taurus and Ruger sp101 without a problem.

36 works on mine. CR, are you trying to shove the whole thing in at once? Because once I get the nose in I release the rounds and let gravity do the work.

I insert the loader until its center pivot pin touches the latch pin on my cylinder, and twist. Its the way Ive always loaded my .357.

I gave what you're saying a shot, and it does work sitting here still, but I just don't see it working out if Im moving around in a high stress situation. Dropping my reload immediately after a firefight sounds like a bad idea.

    Going back to HKS.
