AK47 questions
First off, I really know nothing of these rifles, other than I would like to get one. I have read posts of different manufacturers. What should I be looking for, I really don't want to spend alot of money. Also, what calibre are they (for the most part) and what does the ammo go for? I don't want to go broke on that. Thanks for your opinions.

Re: AK47 questions
well, an ak47 will go for $3000 and up.
if your looking for a semi auto, youll want an akm.
all "47's" were in 7.62x39. all "74's" were 5.45x39.
7.62x39 is by far the most popular, but they are made in many diffrent cal's now for the american market (if you count saiga's)
as for which brand to get, ill bow out of this conversation now, as this question always turns into a "my fav brand is better than your fav brand" battle.

Re: AK47 questions
AK's need an act of god to stop working. Im going to get a WASR 10 AK-47 with 7.62x39 rounds. They are pretty cheap to shoot. You can get a box on the net of 40 rounds for like 10 bucks. You can also replace the stock, grip and mounts to all synthetic to give it a newer look. A lot of the AK's on the market now days are old bangged up soviet surplus guns. With a new stock and regular cleaning you can keep it looking new for a long time. They are by far the best gun on the planet earth. If I had to live on a desert island all alone and I was allowed one gun, I'd take the AK hands down.

Re: AK47 questions
Probably should have looked around a bit more first. I guess I would be looking for a clone. I have seen posts mentioning WASR. I wanted to stay below $500 if possible. .22 would be nice. Anyone know of places in northeast PA that may carry these?

Re: AK47 questions
An AK-47 or variant will cost you upwards of $17,000. Don't know where you're getting the $3,000 number, unless you're considering post-samples.
AK's are not magic guns. However, when PROPERLY ASSEMBLED they are reliable and more importantly robust. There is a difference between the two terms.
I would start with a WASR in 7.62x39mm. If you want a .22 get a Ruger 10/22.

Re: AK47 questions
You should probably get a folder while you still can.
Here's about as cheap as you are going to get.

Re: AK47 questions
wasr or yugos.
500 will get you any 'style' of either, side folder, underfolder or wood stock or pkm.
the yugo are a good quality ak.
do not believe everything you have read about the rommies, they are a fine ak as well. they just tend to be a little more rough around the edges.
i have two yugos and a rommie underfolder, with no regretts about any of them. in fact i've probably be picking up a rommy rpk soon enough.it's only metal, we can out think it....
